I've never posted on the F&D board so i guess i should start off with a hi before i get to my question. So...hi. Now, me and the wife go to a burger joint here in Charleston yesterday and i get jalapenos on my burger like i always do. I have a high tolerance for spicy stuff so you can imagine my surprise when i started sweating and my lips went numb. I lifted the bun and noticed that the jalapenos were a brighter green than the dark colored ones i've seen in the past. I guess my question is what was this? Are there different types of jalapenos? Was this one maybe just more fresh? TIA

You got a fresh one that was not pickled like you are used to... i think.

When you say darker... do you mean pickled?

There are plenty of varieties. I've noticed huge differences in the pickled peppers. Some are almost mild with zero heat and some are hot.

Same for fresh off the vine. My step mother has a plant and the peppers are super mild for some reason.

No if you go to the store and buy jalapenos from the produce section they're almost a forest green color. The one i had yesterday was bright green, like the color of the hat on the pimp icon

They were raw and not picked like you're used to... much more intense heat.

ETA: Nevermind after seeing the last post. Idk what kind of jalapeno is lime green.

Interesting, I typically pick my jalapenos when they turn red as I've been told thats when they are at maximum heat.

It really depends on the season when they were grown. The ones we had this season were very mild because of so much rain, and it not being so hot. Usually the drier and hotter the weather is, the hotter the pepper gets.

I don't know the reason, mine vary in heat yearly. I'm sure heat and watering have something to do with it. I grew some a few years ago and they were mild slight heat these things were awesome. I kept the seeds and the first one I picked I hit off about half to test and my face looked like this

Moral of story always nibble end to test before throwing back a pepper.

Did you eat a lot of seeds? Sounds like you had fresh japs.
