Feeling better all the time. 208/195.0/175. I've got to hand it to my place of work though. Not only do they have an entire team dedicated to healthy living that rewards you with actual cash money based on fitness goals, I even get to put things like weight loss on my regular job duties goals for the year. Yes I do work at a hospital, but I'm fortunate to have this level of support. I placed a goal of 180 lbs on my self-evaluation goals to reach by December.
Truthfully, I don't do it for the money what-so-ever. I've realized now that I've hit thirty that the later years are all about quality of life. I would say I've watched my parents struggle with weight, but truth is they do seem to give a shite. Dad takes a fist-full of pills a day to combat everything from high BP to prostate stuff and I know it is all brought on by weight. Mom isn't in too much better but a little. Doesn't matter, they still won't hit a restaurant unless it has a sign outside that reads "BUFFET" and doesn't have a menu.
I broke out of that crap and realized the sugar filled shite they had stuffed in the pantry when I was a kid was they reason that all the McD's fed kids around the nation are simply just learned bad habits. I've kept out of obesity in spite of the terrible, good for nothing food around the house I grew up in. It's funny I can look at myself at 208 lbs and say "I'm fed up and I've got to do something about it (5'10" btw)"
Sorry for the rant, I'll have something to brag about soon. I've been busting my arse in the gym this last week and I know it'll pay off. Kick arse thread btw.

I'm interested in your sig quote. Let me explain. I've done a good weight loss before about 2 years ago. i went from 212 to 180 in four months. I mostly did weights but also did short high intensity cardio about 3 times a week. All of this involved about 2 hours in the gym everyday. I'm going about this weight loss campaign a little differently though. I would like to spend less time in the gym and make up for it on the tennis court. I've gotten a heart monitor to help me stay in a fat burn zone which is only around 135 BPM. According to things that I'm reading this is the zone to stay in to lose weight. So I'm curious, is your sig quote a joke? Or is it something you know to be true? Help, doing continuous research.

no he is serious....it becomes a topic of discussion about every 4 weeks or so....
I personally don't believe in that theory, at all.

Exercise for weight loss is a myth. Diet is the key. Yes, you are healthier with exercise. There is no doubt there, but your metabolism already burns enough calories to lose weight and most people barely add a few hundred calories to that with their workouts. Not all. But most.
Plus, dieting mixed with hardcore exercise leads to about 99.99999999999% of the people burning out and quitting.
I tried a mix for 30 years and it never worked.
This time I went 1 year with diet alone and it worked.
As Lester will be sure to say, everyone is different but in my case my diet worked because I didn't kill myself with exercise until the very end of the road.

Once again, yes, you are healthier with exercise, but to stick to a diet long term I suggest little to no exercise. Once you lose the weight you can adjust your diet and start exercising regularly.

Please define what you consider normal.
And I agree with Myth. I have lost 40 pounds since the middle of February with NO exercise.

I've done largely no exercise in my 53 pounds. Matter of fact, I gained 7 pounds when I exercised.. but I also went to high carb for a while
and lol @ your stab at CAD..

Let me reiterate, I understand long term exercise is good for you but I believe diet and exercise requires more willpower than most humans have.
Get the ball running downhill, then take up exercise.

Right, right. But I at least assumed that exercise over the long haul raised your resting metabolic rate. It's not the 400-600 that you get at that one time, but extra 400 just sitting around everyday and night.
Posted on 8/12/11 at 2:30 pm to sonusfaber
Maybe for youngsters but I bet 400-600 added to metabolic rate is unrealistic and probably only serious gym rats get that.

I just cut out starches with protein.
no sandwiches.
I have some side issues (accidental pun) with incredible pain, maybe gall bladder.
Trying to find foods that do not create that pain while simultaneously reduce GUT.
Have just accepted I have to stop frying food. Had fried gulf shrimp for lunch and the pain came back. Maybe that's going to be enough, stopping fried food, to end that pain. Maybe not.
Awaiting biopsies, early next week.
Onward.
158 was my MD's idea. He surfs and he's 60.

Try not eating fatty foods. This will aggravate the crap out of gallbladder issues.
Hope everything turns out okay.

CAD's method worked for me. some exercise to avoid guilt but more consistent losses when not exercising at all.

Er.....
Wtf!
Hmmmmm.....
Woot Woot Woot!
Mission accomplished.
And I won the race to 165 although I need to hold that weight until the official Monday weigh-in.
Now what? 17 months of dieting. I feel off kilter.
