What have you done, in a nutshell?

i can break my diet into "pre 220" and "post 220"

for the first 10-11 months i did the following simple things (i slowly added these over time):

- went from eating out EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DAY to making a protein shake (big tub of protein powder) and getting used in general to not eating a big midday meal like i've been doing the last 3-4 years

- cut out all beverages except coffee & water (esp. diet cokes since i drank those like they were going out of style)

- shifted to eating meats, nuts & in general 'filling' fat-heavy foods (aka atkins)

- started 'interval' training..instead of going to bathroom i started taking 2-3 long 'tours' of the building including walking up 8 flight of stairs each time (eventually began running up them and finally running and taking them 2 at a time). in addition started pushups (10 at first) in the service stairwell..then built up to 30 at a time..and finally 30 at a time with my feet on the 3rd stairs (really works your shoulders..VERY VERY GOOD LOOK over time)

- riding my bike a couple hours a day on weekends while trying to get in better shape in hopes of racing in 2011 (my goal all along..not very realistic at 257)

that was basically it and i lost nearly 40lbs just making those changes.

i 'stalled' a bit around nov/dec/jan timeframe after holiday meals, going home to visit family, etc. got a bit frustrated and so in early january i added the following:

- 2-3 '2 day fasts' where i simply forced myself to avoid eating while continuing to exercise on the bike just as hard

- began riding longer on weekends and on harder group rides and started interval training for racing during the week

- added chin-ups (another exercise that pays IMMEDIATE benefits..its amazing how good your upper looks doing even 1-2 chinups)

so thats about it. nothing super special just a mix of eating less, avoiding starches & sugar and interval training.

170/163/150

slowly overcoming the weekend debacle. re-discovered the goodness of fried eggs (tiny bit of Pam only). it'll take some time to adjust to black coffee. (As a kid, I grew up on coffee and a splash of milk with my sugar, watching R R and trigger.)

Ok, you're currently 163, trying to hit 150. Female or 5'2" male?

ETA: NM, I see that you posted earlier that you're 5'9". You're going the wrong way. You need to put some meat on those bones.

I'm only 1" taller, and I would look Ethiopian at 150. Then again, I am broad shouldered and a fairly thick guy even when I'm in shape. When I was in the Air Force and in great shape, I still had to do a weekly weigh-in because i was always near the weight limit.

Are you doing Atkins? If so use butter instead of Pam to cook your eggs. I promise you you won't regret it, and butter is completely allowed on Atkins, as it is a high fat, no carb item.

unfortunately, the belly bulge is all that will occur. Never been over 173 because I can't make myself buy size 35 pants. But I'm in my 50's and can do my age in pushups, I just need to get back to normal weight closer to 150 since I have a young one.

Women are built entirely different than men though. Naturally weigh less. I think 150 would be a great size for a 5'9 woman.

Haha this isn't the OT. I'm still friends with the tiny girl that I know. I love short girls, the one I know is an awesome person and is so I had a huge crush for a while

But anyway, I forgot my lunch again x.x Things have been so hectic lately with fighting with the damn insurance and stuff. But I went to BK and had a whopper patty with lettuce and mayo only, came out to $1.53 or something like that. Cheap Atkins-friendly lunch IMO. But it's not gonna be a habit.

Hulk, I think you missed the point. I think Benchwarmer was letting you know he's not a woman.

It is said that Atkins can affect brain function, but it has never been proven to effect gender.

sorry!

In other news, my dumb self decided I'm going to park at the end of every parking lot from now on to get some extra walking in, however small it may be. First time I do it, there's a hailstorm outside.. YAY

Well, I'm female and on Atkins. However, my brain function was suspect long before Atkins. Maybe it will make me normal?
