Place thick slices of onons in the bottom of the slow cooker.

Stuff butt with garlic, season well and place on top of the onion slices.

Cover 2/3 way with root beer and slow cook all day.

Carefully remove butt and discard all liquid.

Pull pork and return to slow cooker with your favorite sauce.

Used this method before. Never had any complaints.

I second this recipe....let it marinate overnight then put it on the oven....takes about 1.5 hrs per lb and comes out perfect!

That guy's dry rub is dangerously close to mine. I also agree with brining the pork before cooking.

definitely dilute the bbq sauce to prevent it from burning.

Do this for sure, or it could end badly.

What's the point? Plenty of fat/juice remains ina slow cooked butt.

I know this came up in the last pork butt thread I participated in, but it really just serves no purpose for a pork butt.
