We're at a beach house and everyone wants to eat well, but who wants to cook when the beach is calling.

I put a frozen Boston butt in my turkey roaster, added a bottle of Claude's

....and put in the oven at 250F. I turned it at 4 hours and took it off at 7 hours. It fell apart and I skimmed the fat off the au jus for a sauce.

Makes a ton of pulled pork for sandwiches.

I'm not saying this is as good as sitting in a smoker all day, but for an easy beach house meal for a crowd, it is great.

Off subject but you sound like you know your way around meat (hehehe).

What's the best way to make chopped beef? Is one cut of meat better? Over, smoker, etc??

TIA

I do a pork butt in the oven the same way. Love it.

Most chopped beef you get is brisket. I like to cook a big chuck in a dutch oven with a gravy for po boys.

You can do a brisket in the oven much the same for your chopped beef.

I also like to cook a shoulder clod on my egg though not as long and slice it. This is the whole shoulder where the chuck comes from and runs about twenty pounds. Found in a lot of Texas BBQ joints but I've never seen it anywhere else.

I use the exact same recipe for brisket when smoking isn't an option. Two ingredients, meat & Claude's. Never do this with a BBQ sauce that contains sugar, you end up with caramelized tarry mess.

Never tried the claudes. A marinade or sauce? Where can I find it? I'll give it a shot.

Claude's is always with the BBQ sauces, they call it a brisket marinade. I pick it up at WD, Albertson's, not hard to find. I always keep a few bottles on hand. You can turn out a pan load of meat without a lot of work and everyone thinks you slaved.

Another easy pulled pork recipe.

4 pound boston butt
season with Tony's More Spice
one can of root beer
cook in a slow cooker for 4 - 5 hours
Pull it apart with a fork and add your favorite bbq sauce.
Serve on buns with your favorite cole slaw.

You can decrease the cooking time by 1/2 in a dutch oven on the stove top.

I did the root beer/crock pot Boston butt a few weeks ago. I was skeptical at first, but it really was very good.

We usually do the same thing when we're there, but in a crock pot.

I do it stove top.

Boston Butt cut in half or thirds with 1 inch deep cuts
2 sticks Cinammon
6 Lime halves
1 can Cola
1 can Condensed Milk
1 Garlic head
Salt
Pepper
Pour water 1 inch over top of meat

Takes about 4 hours to cook and the meaty is juicy and full of flavor. I then add my homemade bbq sauce. The meat also makes great pork tacos.

Any one ever use Dr.Pepper? If so how did it turn out? I have a boston butt I am throwing in the crock tomorrow.

You can use Dr. Pepper, Coke, or Root Beer, and I don't think you would be able to tell the difference.

I have an 8 pounder going with a rub, some mexican coke, and minced garlic at 250. I figure I would turn at about the 3 hour mark. What do you guys think?

Have one in the slow cooker right now:

6lb boston butt
apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, a little ketchup, water and various spices. Put it in at noon today.......will remove later tonight and bag for the trip to Orange Beach tomorrow.
