Preferred Charcoal Briquette - Do you Buy Royal Oak Classic at $1.99?

This is a spin off of the lump thread earlier, but as I'm looking around, I found that Royal Oak Classic is on sale at Lowes for $1.99 for a 15.4 lb bag. Would you buy it?

I also use Kingsford Blue.
$1.99? That doesn’t sound right at all, but I would buy as much as I could fit in my car if so.

Wow...guess I’m headed to Lowe’s.
I usually use Kingsford Professional just because it goes on sale at Costco a few times a year. It’s OK for smoking but tends to run a little hot.

That's what I usually use, for the same reason. I picked up 3 2-packs a few months back. I can get 7 or 8 hours of low and slow out of it on my kettle, but am thinking I can do better.
Am hearing good things about B&B, and I think Ace carries it, so I'll try that. I have a bag of Weber briquettes that I got on sale for 14.99, but that's still higher than most others.
I may find that it doesn't make that much difference, but I'm ready to experiment.

Royal Oak Classic is a Lowes private label brand that Royal Oak makes for them.
Royal Oak also makes private label for Home Depot (Embers), Walmart (Expert Grill), Kroger, and many other supermarkets.
Royal Oak has a patent on the "Ridge" charcoal briquette shape, the "Ridge" logo is on every private label bag they sell.
Here is the kicker though, Royal Oak sells Ridge Briquettes in a red bag, and these are a different formulation than the private label brands (confirmed by e-mailing the company and through experience). The red bag Royal Oak Ridge perform better than the private label brands in my experience (have not tried the Royal Oak Classic from Lowes).
At $1.99/ bag I will be interested to hear opinions on the Royal Oak Classic from Lowes.
I think Royal Oak Ridge in the red bag is the best briquette on the market that is not an all hardwood briquette (aka Weber, Cowboy All Natural, Royal Oak All Natural, Trader Joes, and B&B Oak).

I went to Lowes, and they were out of stock. I would suggest calling before going. I happened to be going for a different reason, but I checked and they were out of stock.
That is good information. I did pick up a bag of regular Royal Oak Ridge charcoal and it was 7 bucks for a 16 lb bag. I have a bag of Weber ($14.99), a bag of Kingsford Professional, and a huge arse bag of Cowboy Lump, which I believe I will take back to Costco and get something else.

That's alot of information. I can appreciate the research but this may be over complicating things. I start my burn with a basket of whatever and maintain with cured post oak, usually 1 or 2 sticks per hour. By the time the smoke clears the charcoal is a non-issue, never been a problem. Just stay away from lighter fluid or pre-soaked briquettes and you're golden.

Starting to think this was a bait and switch on Lowes part.
Went to two stores in Baton Rouge and one store in Gonzalez and none of the stores had it nor could they tell me when they could get more. (Sale runs through May 9th)

Well that sucks. I called another store and they didn't have it, either.
On another note, a local unaffiliated hardware store was selling it for $7.98 per bag. I'm wondering if they bought it all up and so selling it for a cool $5/bag profit? Makes sense since another poster said that Royal Oak Classic is made exclusively for Lowes, a d Sullivan's shouldn't be selling it.
The place is called Sullivan's Hardware.
