Heading to Portland this weekend. Will be there Friday afternoon - Monday morning. Staying in the Old Port area.

Based on previous threads, I have these as must-do: Duckfat, Honeypaw, Eventide, Maine Beer Co, Allagash, Portland Head Lighthouse.

What am I missing? I have room for two more meals for sure.

Duckfat. Casual place. Fries fried in duck fat and good local beer selection. There are also lobster roll shacks everywhere. Can’t go wrong with any of them.

We go to Portland probably 8-10 times a year. There is no shortage whatsoever of places to eat and drink.

Breweries include:

Bissell Brothers (a must)
Allagash
Foundation
Austin Street
Oxbow
Rising Tide
Maine Beer Company
Definitive Brewing
Liquid Riot (I'd probably recommend skipping this one though)
Bunker Brewing
Battery Steele
Maine Mead Works (if you are interested in mead)

For cocktails - Vena's Fizz House has outstanding cocktails.

Food:

You mentioned Duckfat and Honeypaw - do not miss those; I'd recommend Duckfat for lunch and Honeypaw for dinner. Get a reservation for Honeypaw. The brown butter lobster roll at Eventide is fantastic.

Fore Street would be someplace I'd highly recommend. Same with Central Provisions.

Teralingua has a fantastic brunch.

East Ender is right next door to Duckfat and is a great spot as well.

Emilitsa is a higher-end Greek restaurant and comes highly rated. Haven't personally gone yet though.

Otto Pizza is fantastic.

For breakfast, grab a potato donut at Holy Donut one morning. But absolutely go to Standard Baking Company in the Old Port for breakfast - their chef was one of the James Beard finalists for Best Pastry Chef Northeast.

Bissell Brothers is def on the list. It was supposed to be included in the OP, not sure what happened. Austin Street is another I've heard/read good things about and will try to fit in if time allows.

East Ender, Fore Street and Central Provisions are the others that I've had my eye on, just needed a confirmation that they were legit. Will definitely check out Standard Baking Co as it looks to be right next door to our hotel.

As far as reservations, most places I have looked either don't take reservations or only take reservations for parties of 6+.

Thanks!!

Austin Street is putting out really solid stuff.

The nice thing is that there is an industrial park right next to Allagash that has maybe 5-6 breweries clustered together. Austin street being one of them. It’s almost like an incubator for new breweries (Bissell started there before opening their huge facility)

So you can very easily hit all (or most) of them in one fell swoop.

Hope y’all enjoy yourselves. Portland is one of my favorite places.

we ate our way through Portland last year

Best meals were

Eventide
Honeypaw
Central Provisions (brunch was excellent)

Holy Donut Is a must

Lobster Shack out at cape Elizabeth was fun. About 20 min uber

High Roller lobster Co was our favorite roll.

Make reservations for the places that take them. Duckfat was hard to get in to as well as Central provisions for dinner.

I second High Roller ..

Also, it's not greatest bar (everything is $5) but everyone has to find the Lincoln bar for at least one drink

Fore Street, if you can get in. Best place in the city IMO. Other places besides the ones listed above: Grace, Street & Company and Scales (a more traditional on the water seafood place).

Yes, it is upscale and on the expensive side. No need to wear a jacket or anything. Just dress halfway nice and you will be fine.

Street & Co was just ok. We got their signature dish(their linguine and seafood) and it wasn’t great.

The little alley way it is in is pretty cool tho. Mash-tun bar was a quiet little pub we liked. Had good food too
