I will be in Portland for two nights and Seattle for one this week and I’m looking for some recommendations on local places to eat. Nothing fancy just places with good food and atmosphere. TIA

Portland:
We went to Bread and Ink Cafe with friends who live in Portland; thought it was a REALLY good. It's in a neat neighborhood east of downtown.
Downtown Portland, we went to Mother's Bistro and Bar (down-home cooking), and Saucebox (pan-Asian cuisine; a little on the frou-frou side but not bad at all).
Seattle:
We ALWAYS (last three times) go to the Pike Place Bar and Grill, across the street from and 2nd level overlooking the Pike Place Market and sign. Nothing fancy, and while clearly geared to the tourist trade, they have always have surprisingly good seafood and a nice atmosphere.
Went to Tango Restaurant and Lounge just across I-5 from downtown (tapas and Spanish food) a few years back and we all really enjoyed it.
But while in Seattle, you MUST go to Top Pot Doughnuts on 5th Avenue, right along the monorail line. Delicious unusual doughnuts, great coffee. Another of our Seattle traditions is going there our 1st morning in town.

What area of town are you staying in and what kind of food do you like? There is very little that is "fancy" in Portland. Do you like craft beer? Are you looking for sandwiches or a gourmet meal?
There are several breweries that have great atmosphere and food. Food cart pods are everywhere if you want casual, and some of them are fun with bands and outdoor beer gardens. Otherwise, you can stumble across a great restaurant just walking around. There are a number of good neighborhoods that have good restaurant choices (Mississippi St, 30th and Division St, NE Alberta St, 23rd St, etc). But, if you're staying in downtown Portland, you can eat very well in the Pearl District. Options like Lardo (for sandwiches), Tasty and Alder, Little Bird, Mothers Bistro, and the Alder St Food Cart Pod (60ish different food carts), give you a lot of options. Deschutes Brewery has really good food and a fun atmosphere. There are many, many other options that you can just walk to from downtown, and the city is very walkable.
Portland City Grill has a great view, if that is important to you.
ETA: If you go to the Alder St Food Cart Pod, there is a park right across the street from the food cart pod that is a good place to sit and eat while watching people. It is a great place to go for lunch. If you do go, Nong's Khao Man Gai is a favorite of mine - they only serve one dish: chicken and rice with garlic sauce, but it's fantastic. They will have a line. Also, the Frying Scotsman food cart makes really good fish and chips.

We are staying at the Kennedy School but it’s not hugely important to stay in the neighborhood. This place is pretty damn cool though if you’ve never been!

In Portland, we had a great meal at Pok Pok (very casual) followed by ice cream across the street at Salt & Straw.
