There is no hot dogs in popeyes recipe. Think about it, they are making huge vats, they aren’t pureeing a bunch hot dogs to make red beans

Pork fat and smoke flavoring is what you’re looking for

pretty sure the hot dog method was brought up to approximate the pork fat and smoke flavorings they used for someone trying to recreate this at home.

i dont think anyone in this thread is saying popeyes is using hot dogs.

A buddy of mine used to work at Diversified foods...they are owned by the Copland's and sold the food to popeyes. Copland back in the day sold the popeys but kept Diversified...and popeyes can only buy food from them (at least thats how it was).

He said it had tons of pork fat in them...tons. But thats whats needed to get that classic flavor. Also if anyone cares or can Sysco carries there read beans (no rice) in 45lb boxes I think....like 9 5lb bags. Just heat in boiling water and put over rice.

Correct, it originated from a Tom Fitzmorris response when someone called in and told him Popeyes RB&R is the absolute best. He got his panties all in a wad and went ballistic. I love when that happens!!

RBI (popeyes parent company) bought out the Popeyes recipes from the Copeland’s for like $45 mil a few years back. Diversified still makes them and Sysco is not selling popeyes red beans, there are $45 mil reasons why it’s a proprietary recipe
