A truly diverse wine. My favorites are French, from the bracing Sancerre to the elegant Loire Valley wines and those of Bourdeaux. California makes good examples and New Zealand wines have toned down in the past decade and make some very enjoyable versions. There are still notes of gooseberry (cat piss), but not as pronounced as the past. But even some of those had their place. Recently, I've had good versions from Chile.

Calif. These are probably easier to find
Duckhorn
Frog’s Leap
Groth
Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc
Honig
Matanzas Creek
Ferrari-Carano Fumé Blanc.
Chalk Hill
St. Supery

New Zealand
Whitehaven
Matua
Kim Crawford
Cloudy Bay

Get any Sancerre or a few from Pouilly Fume and you’ll be fine.

New Zealand Sauvs can be good for beginners. Not as good for anyone experienced in wine but they are good starter Sauvs

Josh has a good one for about $15. Kim Crawford is a good one. Nobillo is great in that price range. My go to is the $10 bottle of Cupcake.

Sancerre

Merry Edwards - this wine made me like white wine
Honig

Tramin (Italy)
Marco Felluga Russiz (Italy) - one of the best I’ve had in recent memory

I am a fan of Nola Grace wines. They have a very good Sauvignon Blanc.

All the previous recommendations are good. If you might be looking to branch out but not too far, If you’re a Sauvignon Blanc fan, I’d recommend trying Gruner Veltliner (Austrian) or Verdejo (Spanish) variety wines. They are both similar white wines.

For Verdejo I recommend Gulp/Hablo Verdejo. Very good price point.

For Gruner Veltliner I recommend Hugl Gruner Veltliner also on the cheap end.

Sancerre from the Loire Valley.
White Bordeaux from Graves.

My least favorite are the ones from New Zeland. They taste like grapefruit juice.

Gruner Veltliner

GOAT white wine

For sauvignon blanc, at $12-15 Chateau St. Michelle is good.

If its just for cooking i’ll grab a $9 bottle of dark horse and not look back.

Gruner Veltliner

I like it.
I am not saying that it is the greatest wine in the world but the place it is grown is probably the most beautiful wine country I have ever seen. It grows in Austria’s Wacchau Valley on the slopes of the banks of the Danube River.
We were there last month on a river cruise. We came back with a few bottles of gruner from the Melk Abbey.
