If you read any David Sadaris he has a great story of washing dishes at Piccadilly in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I'll have to check this out

I hit Sherwood Forest every couple of weeks mid afternoon between school and sporting events to let my daughter grab a bite and do homework. It's good and quiet and you can spread out. Be sure to give the ladies a few bucks for a tip. I can imagine if you are waiting and bussing tables at Piccadilly you need the tips. Most are older women and you can look in their eyes and see the despair.

I remember going to Piccadilly as a kid with my family. All 4 of us would have a meal and dessert for less than $20. As I got older and started eating more, my dad would get mad at me if my meal would be over $7.

Very sad indeed. I usually go to the one in LC once a month. When I lived in BR I would hit up the Essen Express take out once a week.

I think the Essen location in BR does well too I haven't been in a couple of years.
The take out always seems busy. The dining area has a decent crowd from 4-6

It's in his Engulfed in Flames book. And if anyone hasn't read his stuff they are missing out on one of the funniest writers in America.

i mean, if you are going to come on a message board and completely make shite like that up, at least google "piccadilly" and do some research .. eh ??

If all of us posting this lovefest for Piccadilly actually spent a little more time in one of them maybe they wouldn't be in bankruptcy.
i have to say, i have done my part ..

agreed .. i always make sure to take care of them .. i have always felt sorry for them .. they are probably more attentive than a full service restaurant waitress is and probably get 10% of the tips they do ..

yeah .. the prices have really gone up in there .. i remember when you could fill up for $5 in there .. i have always said that is their biggest problem of late .. it has gotten as expensive as eating out pretty much anywhere now ..

Go.......
Didn't they file for chapter 11 a few years ago as well?
I knew this story sounded familiar.

Piccadilly has been in bankruptcy reorganization before. It filed a Chapter 11 petition in October 2003 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, sold the business, and confirmed a Chapter 11 plan in October 2004.
The prior bankruptcy spawned a case that went to the U.S. Supreme Court, establishing a rule that a company in bankruptcy can’t escape paying transfer taxes unless a sale takes place as part of a Chapter 11 plan.

The one on I55 in Jackson does pretty well. I go there from time to time and always packed at lunch. Sundays you can't even get in the place as the Democrats take it over. ;-) Its also in a very good location as well.

I used to love going to the one in Bon Marche with my parents. I remember feeling like I was finally growing up whenever my parents would let me carry my tray from the line to the table. That seemed like a huge deal at the time and I was nervous as hell making that long walk.
I also remember the dining room at Bon Marche. It had blue lighting with the ships on the walls. As a kid,I always thought that was fancy dining room.
My most memorable food from Piccadilly was the cubed jell-o and how they always had colors/flavors I had never seen before. I think I remember it so fondly because my parents would never let me get it and it looked soooooo good.
Oh, and the lil chocolate and mint layered Andes' mints at the counter when you paid.

I kinda miss the nautical themed Piccadillys. The ships, the big helms on the wall and fishing nets. It was kinda cool as a kid to see that stuff.

That was Cortana.
I used to think that was the coolest looking place ever as a kid.

The Bon Marche one was a lot more old school Piccadilly.

I loved the one in Cortana.

Me too. Growing up we used to go to the one in Cortana after church. I remeber it having 2 serving lines and both always being full and my dad would always buy my an Andes mint at checkout. I wish they still sold those. I went to the one in Cortana a few weeks ago for old times sakes and the second line was closed and it was dead in there, but I usually hit up the one on Essen of Florida at least once a week with my grandparents.

Your memory is very sweet. It is very similiar to my own memories of Picadilly as a kid.

Yes, I take my mom quite often and it is surprising how expensive it has gotten.
