Perfect example the crab trap... that place is pretty terrible unless it improved in last 10 years but doubt it. that place is still kicking after all these years
I've said that myself many times. However last time we were in PK we reluctantly stopped in there because we were starving and it was close. I actually enjoyed it.

If you stay away from the Shrimp Baskets, Crab Traps and Tacky Jacks of the beach you can actually find a lot of good Chefs around here doing great things. Voyagers, Fishers, Playa, Anchor, Salt, Sunset Cork Room and Villagio at the Wharf just to name a few. Also just recently tried Perch at the new State Park Lodge. Beautiful space but the food was hit and miss. Terrible gumbo but I had an Octopus stew that was delicious.

Fisherman's corner and butches bistro and BBQ... I think the owner of butches is from New Orleans! It was really good!

Pirates Cove
Fun boat ride, great cheeseburger in paradise, and a bushwacker that will knock your dick in the dirt.
Sunset Grille is good.
Only had Flippers Seafood once but the shrimp po-boy is really good.
Wolf Bay for snow crab legs.

I love anchor. Often has live music playing outside. Their poke and fish tacos are really good. Their wings are also solid. It’s feel is more of a beach grill vibe

We had a great weekend trip, other than the storms that moved through Saturday.
We stopped at Felix's on the way. It has been a few years since I had been, and I was disappointed. We got fried calamari, which was decent. Wife got a burger which she said was okay. I got the grilled catch of the day with fried green tomatoes. The fish was just an overcooked filet on a plate with a side of three mushy green tomatoes on another plate.
Friday night we ate at Fisher's. It has probably been a decade since I was there. We ate dockside. It was awesome, and the weather was beautiful. We split the smoked tuna dip. I don't remember what my wife got, but I got the fish and chips and it was delicious. I also got their seasonal frozen drink and whatever it was it was quite good.
Saturday for lunch we went to Cobalt. The service was slow, but the food was very good. I got a burger and my wife got a sandwich and we both really enjoyed our meals.
Saturday night we decided to just get pizza from Perdido Beach Pizza company, which was actually located in our hotel. It was very good pizza, and very reasonably priced considering it was in the resort.
We have baby #2 due at the end of June, but we're hoping to squeeze another weekend trip in before then. As an aside for anyone looking for a quick getaway, we stayed at the Perdido beach resort and really enjoyed it. Reasonably priced, lots of amenities, and it's right on the inlet so it was nice watching the boats come and go.

On this trip, I stopped at Bucee's for the first time. I usually take fairhope to magnolia springs etc etc to get to PK. I like that drive the best and it doesnt add that much time.
Bucee's beef jerkey (behind the glass not bag) was freaking incredible. I got about 5 different flavors. My favorite was the steakhouse (i think that was the name).
New places we tried was Playa... Service sucked for us. We waited about 8 min before someone finally came to take our drink order. We were comped our app for the wait. It was just bad luck on the service issue IMO. Cheese curds were meh... half of them were empty.
I got the pontchartrain dish... tiny grouper filet which sucked but the dish was pretty good as a whole. The atmosphere was pretty badass. The person that owns Fishers owns Playa.
We tried Butch's bistro BBQ... I got the pulled pork sammich and it was decent. Nothing incredible but nothing terrible about it. The SO got the brisket and it was weird tasting... I dont know if they smoked the brisket with mesquite since I am not familiar with the mesquite profile, but it was very odd tasting. We both agreed it reminded us of the smell of moth balls. SO has vetoed this place in the future
As always, we will eat lunch at Fishers at least one day. My fisher burger never disappoints nor does the alabama chicken dish the SO gets.
we the late lunch at Fishers, we were just going to hit up lillians for pizza but they were closed on a saturday night.. apparently the electricity went off earlier and they decided to remain closed. We ended getting pizza from Rotolo's and it was horrible but the kids liked it.
As I mentioned, I always drive thru Fairhope to get to PK and back to BR.
We finally stopped and ate at Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek Marina. We got there at 1130 yesterday and only waited about 20 minutes. We were able to seat outside. I highly recommend this place. we were disappointed at first, because it was their brunch menu instead of their normal menu. Their normal menu looks delicious but this did not disappoint.
I ordered the brunch burger. Hands down the brunch burger is in my top 5. A simple bacon, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato topped with an egg on brioche bun. It was solid.
The SO got the deep south benedict. It was country gravy on top of homemade biscuits topped with a poached egg served with conecuh sausage. It was pretty damn good.
Our toddlers got french toast. The SO said it was the best french toast she ever had and actually finished the toast instead of finishing her dish.
I highly recommend taking this route. It adds like 20 minutes but worth it because pointe clear and fairhope are badass towns to drive through.

My boy and I made the same trip this weekend and it was nice being down there and it not being so crowded.

We ate here at the Dockside as well around 5:30. We had the crab claws, kids fried shrimp plate and I had a pork shoulder with rice and collard greens.
All was very good. Service was a little slow.
Francos Italian in Orange Beach was pretty good.
I did notice damn near every place down there has a help wanted sign. It must be a monster ongoing effort every summer to get enough people down there hired and trained up to fill all the needed positions.

Should have hit up Voyagers while staying at Perdido Beach resort!

I’m in the industry down here and good help is very rare and hard to find. Lots of places will fail not due to bad concepts or food but the labor shortage we are incurring. Both of you guys mentioned slow service and the season hasn’t even started yet down here. Even Burger King at 59 and 180 is offering $17 to start.

We thought about it, but our daughter is only 20 months and I didn't want to risk her disrupting other folks dinners at a nice place.
The menu looked great though.
