Pellet smoker

Looking to buy a pellet smoker and I can't decide between a Traegor or Cabella's store brand. Any thoughts and opinions on the two?

Have you looked at Green Mountain or Yoder?

Traeger is top notch, heavy built, but also one of the most expensive. Don't know anything about the Cabelas model but typically the big box stores source cheaper models with less features. Not saying this is what Cabelas did though. I have a Green Mountain Jim Bowie and it's ridiculous.

Yoder baw. Makes a Traeger look like a tin can.

Traeger's pellet box is idiotic. It's slanted on one side and funnels down to a square so it sucks a square hole out and your fire dies.

The Best you can buy is to order the new Gator Pellet cooker from Gator Pits. It is made out 1/4" pipe like his smokers. Be prepared to pay and weight for it to be built though.

The Rec-Tec and Gorilla Silver Back are also well worth a look.

I just pulled the trigger in the yoder Ys640 pellet smoker. Picking it up this weekend.

I've never once had that happen. Matter of fact my fire has never gone out.
Eta... I know what you're referring to though. I've never been gone more than a few hours though.

I have to use a pvc pipe to place over the square cutout to keep it from happening on long smokes. I've seen green mountain and LA Grills pellet boxes and they are slanted on both sides like it should be. I bought the smallest Traeger so an upgrade is eminent
Won't be a Traeger

You are going to be a very happy man, simple, built like a tank, and does axactly what it should.
I recomend tou get the plate with the door and some grill grates for revearse searing perfect steaks etc.

Clean your hopper and then rub all the sides down with wax paper. This may help with your issue. I do agree, that this shouldn't be an issue and is dumb.

I smoked some ribs today. Filled the hopper at the start.
From 930 am to 550 pm.
Over 8 hours and it wasn't close to needing to be messed with. I guess it just fits my needs.

Picked up the yoder last night getting ready to do the initial Burn in. Then it's on to fun stuff.

You'll probably use it a lot. I've had my Traeger about 4 years. Going to brine and smoke my turkey this year. Don't buy the cheap arse Cabelas brand pellets cuz they suck.
