Folks are claiming you can only smoke for 8 hours before needing to add more charcoal. I'm saying I've smoked for 8 hours and still had half of the gravity box full of charcoal. Meaning I could have kept the smoke going for 12-14 hours before needing to add more.

Eta: master built claims it holds a full 16lb bag of Kingsford. It does not, maybe 3/4.

Are we conflating the the Masterbilt 560 and the Rec Tec 590?

You mentioned that you have the "590", which is the Rec Tec model number. The Masterbuilt is the "560". I think it was a typo, but got things confused, since the "590" doesn't use charcoal.

Someone mentioned that the Masterbuilt Gravity Series uses up a lot of charcoal, but I saw where it gets about 13-14 hours on one load.

Unless you go super high end, I'd pick up the Louisiana Grills vertical pellet smoker you can pick up at Costco for ~$450. I prefer it to the Rec Tec in just about every way. More capacity, more pellet capacity, etc...

I saw that grill at Costco last night.. been talking to the wife about pellet grills and she asked it I wanted to get that one.. I said I was thinking about the Rec Tec..

What are some of the features of the Louisiana Grill that you like? I know you brought up cooking and pellet capacity, but does it hold temp like the Rec Tec and does it offer a wifi app for controls, and does it have it's own plug in meat probes? I sort of like that about the Rec Tec.

Thanks.

I think I've decided to get the Camp Chef Woodwind 36 here in a week or two when my work bonus comes in.

Any good or negative feedback from the board on that one?
