Fixing to pull the trigger on one, comments on both?

Update:
I went ahead and ordered the REC TEC RT700 "the bull".
I will report back on my decision in a few weeks!

get the egg

ive been researching the shite out of this lately

you won't pay as much for a pellet but the cooking with the egg is infinitely better than a pellet grill.

Check into the Kamado Joe. You get a little more for your money as far as extras that you buy a la carte on the BGE. They both do the same thing with the same specs and warranties

My complaint with the egg style smokers is the cooking real estate. You have to get a massive green egg to match the real estate of a pellet grill. And most foods you want to smoke are not friendly for a round cook top. You can fit 4 racks of ribs easily on a small pellet smoker. You'll have to cut ribs down to fit the same on the comparably sized egg.

The egg is absolutely the most efficient with the fuel it uses (charcoal or wood). It can burn for a damn long time without adding more fuel.

yes size limitations are their drawback. since it doesn't fit like a regular rectangular box does, it limits spacing.

Depends on what you want to do. You definitely have more versatility with the Egg, but you could get more smoking space with a pellet grill.

Edit: see above

Has anyone checked out the Masterbuilt Gravity Series? I'm really interested since it still use charcoal but regulates the temp like a pellet grill.

PK Grill and a barrel smoker with guru or flameboss. otherwise a pellet grill that gets hot(there arent that many) or an XL or XXL egg.

While true, you can always get a grill extender, which sits on the top. Personally, i haven't found the need for anything larger than the classic 18" large that i have.

Such as? I've smoked damn near everything on my Joe.

Or get a rib rack. But i can fit 2 whole racks, no problem, or 3 or 4 with the extender.

Masterbuilt Gravity Series

There was a thread on here about it a while back. I have the 560 and love it. It maintains temperature very well and can spool up to 700 degrees from a cold start in less than 20 minutes.

Is it falling apart yet? Build quality seems suspect

I have a Primo Oval XL at home and love it. I have a a Rectec RT-700 at the camp and love it as well. Hard to really go wrong with either. Something cool about tossing some ribs on the Rectec before I go fishing then coming back to ribs for lunch!!! You really can't go wrong with either style smoker.

If you’re going Egg style, get the jumbo/xl size. I have a large green egg and am constantly annoyed at the lack of square footage.

You can do this with most any smoker, just get a guru, flameboss, etc... Really hurting yourself if you dont have one on a Kamado

I guess the searing would be that extra versatility.

I got the 340 two weeks ago and have already done ribs, brisket, and three whole chickens. No leftovers lol. It is the smallest one but big enough for a family of four. I still have a stickburner but if I need to cook for more than 10 or so people, I'd probably just do two rounds on the Rectec. I disagree that a charcoal or wood grill will give you better flavor than pellet, I do not find this to be the case.
