I believe a lot of it, because I've experienced it. All of it.

I'm done with the place. They are nice guys. But between all of them, they can't seem to figure out how not to keep screwing up. There are too many other places that do it right, and that I'd rather spend my money at.

When Parish was still fairly new and they had the Cherry Vanilla Canebrake Cask (think it was that one) and people couldn't get the Canebrake unless they bought the meal.

And people made a huge fuss over that then, you think they would have learned from their mistakes, but they obviously didn't.

I didn't go to PH on Saturday, but every single person I talked to complained about it.

Youve been 5 times and have complained to management every time? This sounds like either you let too much bother you or youre the unluckiest customer ever.

Ive been eating and going out for awhile and can only recall having to get a manager once, maybe twice and youre doing it 5 times in a row for PH.

I still think the weirdest thing about this whole situation is that a place that serves food and even seems to take pride in their food would hire an outside restaurant to cater their event.

When was the last time anyone can remember going to a food serving establishment and having food catered by another restaurant? Was the entire kitchen staff off this past Saturday?

Pelican House must get a lot of unlucky customers.

Seriously, every single time I go, there's been something wrong. Some of it minor, others not so much. But even the minor things, like not updating the beer menu or being out of the first 4 beers I try to order, starts to wear on you when the issues just never seem to be corrected. A time or two is unlucky. Every time is a trend. After two years, you'd think they'd figure things out. But nope. This stuff doesn't happen to me at Chimes or CBD.

Perhaps some sort of raffle for the rare beers would have gone over better

I might not have complained directly to management, but I've had complaints every time I've been there. I've definitely complained to my waitress at least 4/5 times that I've gone and directly to management 2/5 times. I think the only time I didn't complain was the last time I went, because I had given up completely at that point. They aren't listening to their customers and they definitely aren't making any effort to improve their service / business model.

You seem convinced that I'm making it all up though, so I'm not going to waste my time recounting my experiences for you.

Ive had this happen to me there also.

But getting a manager 5 straight times? Come on thats ridiculous. If I go to a place and I have to get a manager on the second visit, Im done with that place. 3rd, 4th, and 5th time, thats on the customer. Not siding with the bar but you gotta give up on the place if its that crappy in your mind.

I stopped going as often because I am only in on the weekends and I dont want to go to a place and listen to a band. After a 6 hour drive, the last thing I want to do is listen to some band play whatever while I am trying to have a convo.

PH seems to be at a cross roads the last year or so with what direction they want to take their bar. Its a huge space so some things are not going to be able to be done. They have to have all the BMC products and whatever is near that quality. If the 17k/month price I heard was right, over 200k a year in just rent is a large number. Throw in utilities and payroll and I dont want to know the cost it is to run that place. With those numbers, they cant afford to be a bar like CBD, who can cater to a smaller crowd because of a number of reasons.

The tap selection should be cut down. 120 taps or whatever is too much for any place in BR, really any bar anywhere.

To be fair, I dont think its an easy fix. This goes back to the size of the place and what they are trying to do.

Chimes has had the luxury of being on a gold mine piece of real estate. For awhile, their tap list was pretty meh, but they had food to fall back on because Chimes is a restaurant first. Good food will always bring people back. This allowed them to get by with a subpar tap selection for a beer place and not go in the tank. PH might not have that chance because they are a bar first with some food.

CBD has some other things that PH cant fall back on. An owner who has multiple places and has been in the game for a long time. Multiple places means he can cater to a specific group at each place and if for some reason a place is losing money, he has others to pick up the slack.

I hope PH can fix whatever problems they have but its going to be hard because they have to appeal to a broad group of people for such a big place and the $$ needed to run it.

Why do some of your keep going back to this place? Do you routinely give places 3,4 and 5 chances? Seems odd to me, especially when there are other options.

I will give a place 2 chances, tops.

I dont think youre making it up. I said i thought you were either very unlucky or easily aggravated about something to the point of complaining about it to the staff. Fwiw, I stopped going to the tables with the waitresses. I'll order my beer at the bar because I dont want to hear some tits and arse tell me its her favorite beer in the world bullshite when I order a Pranqster.

That I will definitely believe you if your complaint is coming from the girls at the tables.

Hey genius, did you ever consider that it wasn't my idea to go there all 5 times? Sometimes you go along with someone else's idea even if you don't want to do it. That's called being a decent friend. Sure I may have complained while I was there, but I definitely didn't make a scene, and I had legitimate gripes.

I'm sorry, but in most circumstances if I had a bad experience with a place three or four times and my friends wanted to go there, I'd probably voice my opinion of the place and tell them I would see them next time.

5 times in 2 years? I'm not exactly a frequent customer.

Sometimes the company you keep outweighs the shite location you are being dragged to.

You're probably right. All of my favorite beer bars are smaller than you would think, especially given their reputation. The Beermongers, Belmont Station, Apex Bar - all very small.

I won't. I hadn't been since a nice fall afternoon when I tried to sit out on the patio. After trying to order 3 different beers on their menu, only to be told they didn't have it, I finally got my 4th option. We ventured to the patio, where we sat for a few minutes before one of the owners came out with a power saw to do some work on the pergola while we sat nearby. We finished our drinks with the swiftness and moved on to Bulldog's patio that day.

I gave them another shot here, 7 months later, and once again it was an epic fail on their part.

I'm truly done with the place. There are too many other options for me to keep trying.

You're right, I don't.

It is of course entirely possible that your circumstances are exceedingly extenuating to the extent that they would continuously cause you to subject yourself to a place with what you consider to be poor food, poor drinks and poor service simply to placate your friends who apparently have awful taste.

You are apparently a gentleman and a scholar to endure such agony on behalf of your friends. I wish you the best.
