Agreed. After getting spoiled by All Relation last year and their very smooth high abv iPas, Holy Ghost was way to boozy to be just 10%

I guess there is a market for it, apparently, but i don't get it. There are only 2 or 3 styles where 10% abv is appropriate, after that it's just so overly boozy it's undrinkable, to me. I limit out at 7% for IPA's really. Anything more than that and the alcohol mutes the hop notes, IMO. It's why i quit buying stone IPA's. I love a good west coast IPA, but everything stone puts out is 8-10%. To me, anything that high abv is meant to be stored, so the alcohol mellows out over time. An IPA is not meant to be stored. It's meant to drink fresh.

In terms of the availability thing, that's nothing new. Parish has been doing this with their special releases for a long time, and it's been bitched about it before. I'd be more upset if i still went to releases.

Ruination was great, so was Levitation. But they've both gone away, unfortunately.

Racer 5, Palate Wrecker by Green Flash …late 2000’s/early 2010’s IPAs were so underrated.

heady topper came out in 2004 but the legs of NEIPAs were stretched until 2013-14ish.

Heady Topper at least has a perceived bitterness and still shows roots of more "traditional" IPAs. My dislike of more contemporary NEIPAs is the race to make the softest beer. It just doesn't taste like "beer" to me. It's just terpenes mixed with ethanol on a muted background. It's like the polar opposite of when it was a race to make a beer with the most IBUs where you only tasted bitterness and ethanol.

i do.... the different flavors of juice i have brewed is astonishing. I have maded ones that were straight orange juice, I worked on one to get as pure lemon as i could, got close but not all the way yet, To pure stone fruit, to a pure bouquet of flowers. Sure the mass breweries using all different hops they all taste the same, but you can pinpoint flavors you like if you know what you are doing. It doesnt seem even micro brewers do this. If i ever get my brewery off the ground, i will have 3-5 different neipas and they will all be drastically different.

Yep. Other than GITM and ones from a couple of the local Birmingham breweries, I've stopped buying them. The vast majority of the ones I can get in Birmingham just aren't very good. Maybe one day Wild Leap out of Georgia will distribute here.
