Got one bottle each of Pappy Van Winkle 20 and 23 from a buddy and need to settle up on price. I have helped him out a good bit lately so I think he is trying to give me a low-ball number (~$2900) 'cause he feels like he owes me. I'm no Bourbon expert but at first glance that seems maybe a little low and I want to pay him a solid market price. He could really use the $$$. So, I come to the O-T knowing I will get some excellent feedback.

On the secondary market Pappy 23 is $1800 and Pappy 20 is $1200, as of today. That could go down a little when the 2016 batch hits everywhere in a few weeks.
So yeah he's cutting you a break of $50 per bottle.

$1800/$1200 puts it in the ballpark of the number he threw out there. When I searched most of the 23s I saw were over $2200 and the 20s were over $1500.

They put last year's PVW 20 overruns into Jager bottles. My buddy bought out the whole store after the clerk shared the info. Isn't getting near the prices in this thread on the private market.
