It's literally 2 miles from Rocca to The Merchant.

I don't live next to Merchant either. It is just closer to home than Rocca.

I don't drink and drive, and for some reason paying more than $10 per direction on Uber makes my heart hurt.

Really my point was moreso that losing Merchant in that area would be disappointing because unless you count K Street in the same category (some do, some don't), overpass/Perkins/Lee doesn't really have anything like Merchant either. Overpass area has always been okay, but the addition of Merchant did a lot to liven the area up. I like that currently you can decide to go to that area and hop around, or go to mid city and hop around, etc. Basically - I'd welcome a place like Merchant in mid city, but not at the price of losing one in its existing area.

Someone on FB said there's a development being built by Parrains where many of these businesses will relocate. Anyone know about that?

The rezone of the area where the Perkins road on/off ramp is being removed will yield roughly 17 acres. Rumors were that the Merchant would have the option the move there. Something will be done on that property either way.

Well the merchant doesn’t own the building. Will they be getting reimbursed enough to cover building from ground up? Seems cheaper to go find a building on government and Reno it

No, they do not. Kevin Reilly owns the building. Probably, but don’t know any details for the Merchant or for the new development. Not sure how that’s going to work. Is it going to be sold to a developer? If they buildout for tenants then that would be cheaper than reno. But how the property is handled is a whole new issue in itself.

My understanding is that the building that houses the Overpass Merchant cannot be torn down due to its status on the historic register and those tax credits used to fund the renovations.

That the barber shop where they used Clippers attached to a vacuum cleaner? Troy's. Went there once was too odd for me.

How do they decide how much to offer a business and residence to give up their property?
