Started watching a new series on CNBC called Billion Dollar Buyer and the star is named Tillman Fertitta. The show says he started his business empire by opening a Landry's Seafood in Katy, Texas. They referenced that that restaurant grew out of a family restaurant in Lafayette, La.

I know the Don's Seafood Hut restaurant chain was started by a family named Landry. Are these places connected? I thought there was some kind of rift in the Don's family about 25 years ago and the 2 sides of the family went in different directions, each with their own Don's restaurants.

Today, this Fertitta guy owns 100% of Landry's Seafood chain, the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles, Morton's Steakhouse - over 500 restaurant locations of various brands and many other businesses across the country.

Does anybody here know what the history is?

It's probably the general resentment most South LA people have for Landry's. It's the "Bubba Gump" of Cajun food. It sucks.

Years ago I was told by a member of the Don's "Landry" family that the original owners of Landry's in Lafayette were related to Don's Landry Family. But that was about all. The business were never connected in any way.

Hope that makes sense.

The bar trash is my go-to over there. Everything else I've found pretty meh...though better than Pappadeaux's.

The landry family owns the Don's restaurants.years ago part of the family opened the Landry's in henderson,LA. A few years later 2 of the brothers moved to Houston and opened a Landry's and a willie g's (willie g was don Landry's brother)
Tillman bought out the Houston brothers in 86 and than bought the Henderson location in 94. Once he owned that one he owned full rights to the name and could expand outside of Texas and go public. Since than he turned it back into a private company and grown it to the 600 units and 5 golden nuggets it is today.
