Here's been my experience with old liquors:
Rules of thumb:
1. If the cork is broken, no matter what it is, toss it. If crust falls off when you unscrew it, toss.
2. If the booze costs under $30/bottle unopened, and it's of unknown age, and 3/4 full or less, toss.
3. If it's a mixer, toss.
4. If it's a liquor, like Kalula, or Baileys. Toss.
5. If it's a liquor like Amaretto, taste, but show no mercy if it's off.
6. If you're in college, ignore rules 1-5 and mix all that shite together in the bathtub.

Thank you - let's see;

toss, toss, taste/toss, toss, uhmmm/keep for Long Island Tea, toss, toss 1st pass keep, toss.....

Depends on much is left in the bottle. With whiskey, once you get below 1/4 left it's a good idea to kill it soon..... itll start to oxidize and not be good.

It also depends on how many times the bottle has been opened. If you're treating yourself to a 2oz pappy over 10 years, that bottle will probably not be nearly a good as it could have been.

The best solution when you get good whiskey is to drink it all as quickly as possible before opening up the next bottle. That's my motto anyway. :P
