One Fifth Mediterranean - Houston

So Chris Shepherd's rotating One Fifth concept just reopened in its 3rd iteration. This time, Mediterranean. This restaurant clearly modeled after Zahav in Philly and Shaya in NOLA.
I couldn't get into Zahav when I was in Philly. I've had Shaya several times. I have not eaten at Saba yet.
Menu Link
Gave it a go last night.
Got the Daily Hummus, which was Hummus with Lamb (ground lamb).
Next got the Kibbeh Nayeh (Raw Kibbeh).
Then got a couple kabobs from the "Al Ha'eesh" category. The Flat Iron Beef (left) and the Lamb Kabob (right).
The pita definitely wasn't as good as Shaya's. Neither was the hummus. There's no lagniappe on the table such as Shaya's zaatar dip.
I enjoyed the kibbeh. I've had this dish many places, including my mom's kitchen. THis was a solid take on it.
The toum (garlic) was really good. It was served with the kibbeh, but also available for $1.
Both meat kabobs were tasty, but didn't find either to be as good as Shaya's lamb kafta.
I must admit I didn't try any of the "family style" entrees. The lamb is my favorite dish at Shaya, and it's usually ~$40 for one shank. This place has a $75 plate that had 2 shanks. I wasn't ready to commit to that. If I go back with friends, hopefully I can try that.
Sorry for all the comparisons to Shaya. I just didn't get enough quality to justify the premium of dining here instead of going to Sayad's or Abdallah's or Cafe Lili here in Houston.

I'll stick with Fahdis in Houston for Mediterranean food. GOAT

Cafe Lili
Woof.
I go there and only get the kibbeh. The rest of menu way overpriced and not that great. But the closest fried kibbeh to my mom's style.

I sure appreciate your review. I plan to get in there sometime but not in a mad rush just yet. I am more anxious to see Georgia James' baller boards coming out of the kitchen soon. Also, big thanks for the Calliope's shout out a few weeks back. That place is a stone's throw from my driveway and their debris poboy is the real deal!

I went in it’s sec iteration. Think it was European Romance or something like that?
Very good meal.

Have eaten at the first 2/5 and def plan on making this one. Steak and Romance languages were both awesome so I expect this to be great as well. Cheers.

Going a week from Monday. Thanks for the write up Bus, haven’t made it to Shaya.

One Fifth Romance Languages was one of the best meals I've had in Houston.

We used to love Cafe Lili, but the last few times we’ve been have been mediocre at best. the kibbeh is still good, though. Fadi’s is okay, but not the GOAT IMHO. We’ve never been disappointed with Phoenicia/April.
