This is going back a ways....I remember as a kid (think mid 1970's) a pizza restaurant on Government St where an older guy working the counter would "insult" the customers as a sort of "comedy act". It was absolute gold and it wasn't uncommon for him to have the entire building laughing- especially when someone unfamiliar with his routine would walk in.

Anyone remember the place and the "grumpy" guy behind the counter?

Was it in the strip mall where Radio Bar is now?

No, this place was further east and on the opposite side of the street. For some reason Shakey's comes to mind- but I just can't remember if that was the same place....

I saw a reference to a Pizza Inn on Gov't in an old TD thread. Could that have been it?

I'm pretty sure the Brewbachers building was a Pizza Inn.

You are correct. Brew Bachers on Gov’t used to be a Pizza Inn.

Maybe Browl will go there.

It was a Pizza Inn and the Rotolos was a Pitt Grill then MOPS Meat Pies which was Mary Olive Pierson’s place.

Next to the old Phil’s Oyster Bar was Toups Seafood.

There was a Jew deli farther down around Steele Blvd but can’t remember the name. Lobianco’s Grocery was at the corner of Steele and Govt and it is where the Radio Bar guy wants to build the beer garden.

The Radio Bar building used to be a Western Auto.

Giamanco’s was where the new White Star or whatever it is called is being built.

Boudreaux’s was the original Bob and Jakes.

Can’t quite remember a funny/grumpy bartender. Joe Ragusa was the old bartender for Fleur De Lis and he also drove an Ice Cream Truck during the day.

I grew up in Old Goodwood and Jefferson Place so I ate all over there. Giamancos has great seafood, Italian and steaks. Loved it. His brother owned Suburban Garden’s in Alexandria and it was just the same.

Go to Tic Toc to get shoes fixed, Young Fashions for a suit and either Piccadilly Westmoreland or Jay’s BBQ for lunch.

Egg salad sandwiches for $.25 on Friday’s in a wax paper bag from Joe’Ds and eat at Goodwood Park.

I can’t for the life of me remember a grumpy bartender that brought down the house. Only bar and pizza was Fleur De Lis.

That's the place where I learned to bite all the way through the hot cheese lest it pull away from the slice and wrap around my chin.
