So I’m traveling to Boston and Augusta for a couple of days. Can someone give me recap on beers that I need to get? Love the IPAs. Headytopper is to far away for me to get. Any Trillium must haves?

Trillium and treehouse are hard to find even at beer bars in Boston. Trillium has a couple of locations in the city though.

I haven’t been in over a year though so their distribution may have improved.

Nope. No good beers here in Boston.

You’re not going to find Heady Topper or Treehouse anywhere in the city. Have to go to the source for those still (or at least go to stowe, VT for Heady).

As far as what Trilliums to get, the answer is anything and everything they have available for purchase when you go.

Trillium isn’t easy to find on tap, but Five Horses always has 4-5 rotating on draft. If you want cans you’ll need to go to the source as well.

Occasionally you’ll see Sip of Sunshine in liquor stores and on tap at restaurants. Just keep an eye out.

Other great breweries in the city include:

Night Shift (Everett)
Aeronaut (Somerville)
Slumbrew (Somerville)
Cambridge Brewing Co. (Cambridge)
Lamp Lighter (Cambridge)
Dorchester Brewing Co. (Dorchester)
Winter Hill Brewing (Somerville)
Mystic (Chelsea)
Harpoon (Boston)

If you are interested at all in Cider, there are two cideries worth checking out:

Bantam (Somerville)
Downeast (East Boston)

Whatever you do, do not waste your time going to Sam Adams. Tourist trap with crappy beer.

A couple great beers from New England that are readily available in Boston are:

Maine Brewing Co.
Singlecut
Fiddlehead

Restaurants with solid beers lists include:

Five Horses
Lord Hobo (brewery is in Woburn but their restaurant/bar in Cambridge serves everything from the brewery)
Mead Hall
Row 34
Deep Ellum

Went to Boston last may and hit up a ton of spots. Made a run to trillium and bought a suitcase just to transport some beer on the flight home.

I also highly suggest night shift in Everett.

Since you are traveling to Maine, I assume you have a car. Tree house is a must stop if you have the time. Limits now definitely make it worth the drive. Like abita said, get whatever you can at trillium. If you feel like driving outside the city, they do cans and draft at the brewery in canton.

Stop in Portland too. Bissell Brothers makes great stuff. You might get lucky for a swish release.

I second this. Very possibly my favorite brewery, and Portland is amazing and definitely worth a visit.

I was at Bissell last weekend. Two days later, they released Swish.

But I still got a decent haul to bring home.

But yeah, I didn’t even get into the plethora of amazing breweries in Portland.

Bissell Brothers
Maine Brewing Co. (technically Freeport)
Oxbow
Allagash
Foundation
Austin Street
Battery Steele
Rising Tide
Liquid Riot

They even have a mead wine place that is outstanding.

Seriously, Portland (ME) has got to have the best breweries per capita in the country.

Got some goodness

Haze from treehouse- incredible
Bright- from treehouse-haven’t had it
Alter ego- treehouse
Aeronaut- haven’t had it yet
Some Maine beer co beers

Overall good haul. The drive was sketchy going to treehouse but worth it, absolutely NO lines

Congrats. My friend worked at Harpoon when it was the best thing in town c’05 (UFO was a big deal, times change). The brewmaster would scrap a batch for whatever reason and tell the employees to give it away. Another friend would take the Fidelity shuttle to the brewery and load up. Good times.

Sounds like you walked away with a good haul. Enjoy.

Treehouse really is a pain in the arse to get to, but the beer makes it worth it.
