Kinda bored with all the standard items like baked/fried turkey, ham, dressing, etc and want to experiment a little. What have y’all ate or cooked that went over well?

We always go in a seafood direction with the appetizers.

Shrimp remoulade/cocktail.. crab cakes with lemon butter.. marinated crab claws..

Doing all three of the above this year.

We'll be there at noon, before our turkey Thanksgiving.

Tamales are traditional for some, but not others. Always good to have.

Even though I do a standing rib at Christmas I’ve been known to do it at Thanksgiving as well - with Yorkshire pudding of course.

I have Italian friends that do a complete Italian spread with salad, soup, anti pastas, pasta and meats in red gravies. I tend to visit these friends on Thanksgiving from time to time with a bottle of wine as an appreciation for feeding me.

If you are just looking for something in addition, do a really nice charcuterie or a really good cheese board.

An addition this year for me is a big pot of butter beans with shrimp. I was given a few pounds of shrimp today and I have a lot of my butter beans I grew taking up space in the freezer and I have an envie for them.

I’m going to debone the turkey and stuff it with mushrooms, spinach, garlic and onions then tie it up. Slices well and I can cook a 20lb turkey in 2 to 2.5 hours at 450 degrees.

This year we aren’t having turkey at all.
Raw and chargrilled oysters
Ribeyes
Sides

ETA: That gif is awesome! Most of our family is either going to a hunting camp or going visit family elsewhere. It’s my wife and I, our daughter, and 1 aunt. So 3 adults and none of us care for turkey. We said screw it. Oh, and we plan to drink champagne most of the day until the saints game I hope we make kick off

It’s only once or maybe twice a year with Christmas that people usually have Turkey etc.

I always really look forward to the traditional spread.

That being said, oyster dressing, green chile Mac and cheese, mirliton dressing, ratatouille, dirty rice, involtini, are somewhat non-traditional

We're adding pancit, lumpia, and fried rice to our list of dishes. Filipino food is awesome

I've heard about some families doing this and it really intrigues me.
