Are there any that last? We bought our daughter one that we assumed, based in price, would be really good and it's not. The one we bought was a Zwilling J.A. Henckels

I bought a large restaurant style one from sams for about 25 bucks last year

Cheap enough to just replace every year or so

LINK

They also have a smaller 10" for a little cheaper

I'd first recommend a well seasoned cast iron skillet.

Alternatively, there's this Tramontina: LINK

And make sure she knows how to use and clean to not scrape away at the nonstick coating.

I have several cast iron skillets. I bought them especially TO give to my two daughters. They're just not ready for the upkeep yet. One about to graduate from college and the other just started. They're responsible, overall, just not sure they would want to take the care involved. Also, one will have two roomies so that's another matter.

I just asked one. She said, "Whatchu mean you hafta dry it on the stove?" When I explained she said nah.

Shew, after all these years, I'm still trying to teach her mom that.

I use cast iron skillets and love em. Have bought several of them all rusty for less than 10 bucks at auction and re-seasoned.

The skillet I use the most is just a regular non-stick. I don't even remember where I bought it. Probably Wal-Mart or a grocery store, possibly Bed, Bath and Beyond but I don't remember buying a skillet there. I buy all my frying pan splatter screens at BB&B though.

It's nothing special and I have had it for over 10 years. I do not use any metal utensils with it. No forks, spoons, metal spatulas, EVER. I only use plastic/nylon, wood utensils/spatulas or non-stick spatulas only. It also never sees water. I heat it up poor grease, etc out and wipe it clean with paper towels.

Unless you use metal to ruin the non-stick or throw it in the dishwasher I don't see how one couldn't last a long time.

I recently learned that even cast iron pots can tooon electric stoves. The flame of a gas stove is much more suited for them.

The Cooks Standard line pans are good, I get about 18 months out of them before they need to be replaced. These are the ones I currently have in use:

Cooks Standard Nonstick Pans

Avoid the T-Fal Thermaspot pan - the center is convex so eggs pool to the edges of the pan. I tossed the one I bought after my fifth omelet was a mess.

You'll get more mileage out of any non-stick by limiting their use to eggs and crepes, avoiding using metal utensils in them and not having your flame on at full blast.

Just buy a new one, and don't use metal cooking utensils.

amazon

I found 2 of theses sets, 4 pans total, for $50 and have been very happy. Heat is even and the nonstick surface has held up on all 4 for 2 years now. I rotate them constantly so that probably helps tremendously.

I've never seen that but saw where the poster below said that it mostly happens on electric stoves. I have a gas stove-top.

Actually, I take that back. I think I have seen a warped pan. My friend's sister and I were discussing my friend and his wife's pans last Thanksgiving. That is one household item I will not buy as a gift for them again. We went in and got them some nice pots and pans the year before for Christmas.

That shite is wrecked. It looks like they did everything but run over them with a 3/4 ton truck. They have an electric stove and just the smallest frying pan isn't wobbly while sitting on a burner now. They are scratched to hell. It looks like they use steal wool to clean them.

I have full set of all clad non stick pans. I would have never picked them for myself, but my grandfather got them for me a five years ago when he heard I cooked often.

I immediately ruined my 10 inch skillet, because even though the instructions said it could go in the oven at up to 500 degrees, it was a flat out lie.

Other than that, every pot, pan, and skillet is still completely coated and still non stick 5 years later. Each gets used at least once a week.

I just went out and bought a bunch of high-heat silicon cooking tools and have never had a problem.

Recently picked up a scan pan.... not a huge fan of non stick b/c I never seemed to be able to get things to cook well in them.

The scan pan I have is damn good. I can sear steaks, burgers and fish like I would in my stainless stuff. It heats evenly and quickly. Has some characteristics of cast iron... well at least I think not does and I use cast iron a good bit.
