Except for Mestizo's, as a group the Texmex places in BR might as well be a chain. Same menu items because "this is what people like", bland spice levels for the blue hairs and chain stroker gringos, indifferent college student servers.

My wife wants to go to Las Palmas occasionally, I will go, but my expectations are very, very low.

if you want a bar, but the food is always meh to me. Their salsa always seems greasy (as funny as that sounds).

Fajitas at Serranos aren't bad, but I don't really venture out.

As soon as you're willing to pay outrageous prices for terrible food quality and service.

How can a place be so clueless as to how offputting this would be to a paying customer?
its college students who coast to get buy. the manager should train the hostess to seat only one section of the restaurant so that the guest arent in the middle of the servers doing closing duties everywhere else.

lately i find it really annoying when i have to wait 20 minutes for a check on account of a server trying to do closing shift work. i just dont go out to eat much these days. the service sucks more and more each time i go out.

but to be fair, this is my Tex-Mex experience pretty much everywhere except for Texico, and a very few select few major cities.

Yeah...I don't really know what people are expecting to find at a TexMex place. I mean, TexMex was pretty much invented for white folks.

Salty, cheesy, overly spicy in some cases, goodness.

right. if you want something re-inventing the wheel then don't go to a tex-mex place. It is what it is.

i prefer the places where you get your choice of protien served in two corn tortillas, with cilantro, raw onions, and a lime wedge.

The gist of my complaints weren't really about the food. I would never go there (or any "Tex Mex" place) expecting anything close to mindblowing, cuisine-wise. Although, comparatively speaking, the food generally seemed to be a bit off from what I had gotten from there in the past.

oh, i get what you are saying esp regarding service.

I was addressing the folks acting like BR is unique in having homogeneous and largely shitty Tex Mex food.

I can't disagree with this, that why I wrote that my expectations were so low at Las Palmas. I also agree that the only place I have had great Tex-Mex was Texico, particularly East Houston areas(if that is what you mean by Texico). Some of that has been incredible.

Have not tried Blue Coyote, so I don't know if it is different.

For no less than a decade, the manager of Ninfa's has been a guy from Monterrey, Mexico. I haven't been there recently, but as long as Nando is at the helm, I've never had a bad meal there.

It's not authentic, but considering the amount of time the manager spends in the kitchen, the food is fairly consistent. Their training program also seemed to be noticeably better than other Tex-Mex restaurants, it's extremely rare that I would get bad service there.
