my gf and i almost ate there one saturday, but she 1st wanted to go to that place next door that sells those cute little fancy puppies...the smell in that puppy place was so bad, that we both lost our appetites...i'd move too.

The Deluxe Pizza is the only thing there I eat, and I find it no better than Pastime's.

Johnny D's menu fare isn't good, and those sandwiches are really bland. I thought he had a liqour license, because he drinks wine, and gave me and a friend a bottle each of some stuff he likes to take home once.

Mrs Saia at Anthony's is where to get an topshelf italian sandwich!

It's a general point. I've eaten out many times and had bad meals but it is what it is. It cost money to eat out and I rarely complain about the price. Food may suck but I knew the price once I sat down and could have left prior. More often than not I have good meals whether it is 6 bucks or 100 bucks.

Go down the street from there and eat at Dempsey's. Not pizza but you won't be disapointed.

Not sure what happened with his liquor license because I have been several times and had bottles of wine. Not in the last 3-4 months though. Maybe he lost it when he had the name change? Not sure why.

For the record I like the little joint and I've never had a bad pie there or pasta. Never had lunch buffet or a sandwich though. Only dinner.

Oh I forgot to mention in my earlier post, he offered me a glass of wine. I don't know how that goes with the liquor license thing.

Does anyone know if they have an authentic Margherita pizza (with real buffalo mozzarella)? Hard to find a good New York style pie in Louisiana.

mdobra1, I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. I got a medium 3 topping pizza and the girlfriend got a small speciality pizza and an order of cheese bread and it came out to over $35. ($16 for each of the pizzas and $5 for the cheese bread).

Thats ridiculous, for my money I would rather get DeAngelo's or Italian Pie to-go.

I did try his lunch buffet and I thought that was very good and reasonable for the price. It did kinda creep me out how he stood up there and served you food and watched you eat...........kinda reminded me of the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld.

NY Pizza does NOT have a medium pizza.. Are you complaining about paying for a Large 3 topping pizza for 14.50? According to their menu 14 inch is 9.99 and 1.50 for each topping. Which 10 inch personal pizza costs 16 dollars? The most expensive specialty ones range from 9.99 to 13 dollars. Cheesebread is listed as 6.50. Thats 34 dollars but compare those prices to Papa Johns and or DeAngelos which they do not have a 14 inch as the 'medium' and you will pay 9.95 for a 12 inch and on avg $2 for each topping. You are looking at the same prices for less.. Not to mention the fact that DeAngelos is the same family. I FAIL to see how you paid 16 for "each pizza" when their own menu disputes this as being possible.

BTW ever think of getting a large pizza and splitting it down the middle for what each of you want? I just find it funny that the chain pizza joints would charge you the same prices for what you ordered but you never hear of people saying Papa Johns is expensive.

ETA I added the same meal you had on Papa Johns order form and even WITH thier special the total came out to 32 dollars. This is for delivery not eating at an Italian restaurant.

1 14 inch 3 topping pizza at menu price:

Dominoes 16.49
Papa Johns 15.99
NY Pizza 14.50
DeAngelos 12 inch 14.50 + (depending on topping choice) next size is 16 inches

You can get coupons for all these places.. ALL are expensive by the mesures defined in this thread. Of the 4 NY Pizza is actually the cheapest.

i'm getting in a little late on this ... i don't understand what this guy's point is on the pizza .. like you factually backed up .. you could spend that easily at papa john's .. and deangelo's costs the fricking same and NYP's pizza is far better, IMO .. johnny is strange bird, i'll give you that .. and the alcohol issue is odd too .. but for christ sakes, what do these people fricking expect in their pizza ? i pick up a large from there once every week to week-and-a-half and have NEVER had a bad pizza there in my life ... in fact, it's the best pizza i've ever had in BR .. why do people think louis (deangelo) sued him ? because johnny's pizza is better than louie's is .. louis was scared shitless that johnny was going to steal his thunder in BR ... for $9.95, the lunch buffet is a fricking STEAL when you consider everything you get with it ... he wasn't charging enough for a long time ... you are almost going to drop at least $40 anywhere two people eat out in BR unless you are hitting the fast food joints ...

I think I do, and after initially liking his pizza, have ate there so much over the past year, that I've discovered that most of his pizzas are good not great, sans the Deluxe with extra toppings.

The sandwiches and buffet fare, are largely bland and forgettable. Give me Mrs Saia's at Anthony's & Pokey at Pocorellas sandwiches and other dishes, Gino's,etc..any day of the week.

Sure, some folks have issue with BR pizza, admittedly lacking, and even though I'd call Johnny D's Large Deluxe add extra Pepperoni, Ham, and Peppers BR's best. I still like a Pastime Everything when on flat crust and not overdone(which they sometimes burn the crust) or a Fleur De Lys All-Around w/no anchioves(theirs are too salty and sometimes rank nowadays)..

Johnny's Pizza is like BR's Best's Chinese(Taste Of Asia and PF Chang's)..though really good..it largely wins by default..because this town is near void!

There are generic corner stores in New York, Jersey, and Conn, that serves pizza just as good..and you know it!

I have never gotten a good vibe from this place. Wife finds the owner a bit strange. I've been twice and the kitchen seems disorganized. Pizza is ok.

Johnny definitly gives the place a mafia-esque vibe to the place. But I think it adds to the character of the place. Now I wish he would fix his damn liquer license issue. Im betting there is some political game someone is playing with him on that. Place has character which is something BR lacks.

He's Italian. Go listen to Pokie Poccarella and his wife. Leave the kids at home.

That adds to the atmosphere. I think they hit the wine pretty heavy too.
