In an effort to avoid S-bucks and commercialism, any suggestions for a true good cup of NY coffee? I like the Arab coffee in and outs, but a sit down would be great. Is Dean and Delucca still a thing? Midtown to Downtown areas.. TIA

Joe Coffee. 23rd Street between 9th and 10th Ave. Good cup of coffee and done with care. More of a neighborhood feel.

That’ll probably be cold by the time it makes it to New York.

It’s likely a “chain” by now but one of my favorite things to do when in New York is go to Stumptown in the Ace Hotel and have a cappuccino. Take it to the counter next to the glass window, have a moment and look up to the spire of the Empire State Building. It’s my Michael Scott at Sbarro moment.

Go to Intelligentsia on 21st and 10th and then go walk the High Line.

A couple other places you can look for:

The Elk
Birch
Blue Bottle

Well good choice. Because the Breslin and John Dory are also in the Ace and great spots for a drink/snack.

The Breslin has a really cool bar.. a British Cochon Butcher vibe. The kids might like the Top of the Rock, that’s what made me ask about Dean and Delucca.

The best cup of coffee I’ve had in NY and possibly ever was today, at Eataly..

Everything is great at Eataly. It's like walking through a live set filming food porn. When I lived in London I lived about 10 minutes walk from Harrods in S. Kensington. I used to go and hang out and do my local shopping at the Food Hall, it was magic.

Yesterday I sat at the pasta bar at Eataly and they explained to me how they steep saffron to make saffron tea. Then they use the tea to make the pasta dough for the gnocchi they serve with Italian sausage and Pecorino Romano.
Speaking of food halls, the Gansevoort Market, across 9th Ave from Chelsea Market was great and the burger bar, Burger Inc. is spectacular. They also served macaroni and cheese poppers, which were ok, just a little too rich for my taste..

I've had it in San Francisco as well and lugged some beans back. Will look into an online order.

Adding another great coffee shop to the list.. Rocco’s Pasticceria on Bleecker, an Italian cake and cookie shop with fabulous coffee. There’s a brick courtyard to get away from the street traffic where you can snack on Italian cookies and coffee and get your stamina back up, to hit the streets again.
Italians know good coffee..
