That part of town isn't really something I think of when I think of legit dining. A lot of half-assed, rigged up businesses..

You got a effing problem with that part of town ?

I'll have you know that Pizza God Johnny's used to be right acorss that street

I'm kidding of course.. just seemed like a pissing match/e-fighting kinda of thread here and I wanted to fit in...

And I'm a lover not a fighter.

The owner of this place is Nigerian.

A number of food elements of Cuban cooking are from Nigeria, so this sounds promising (Santeria itself is a Nigerian/Catholic syncretic religion). Apparently some of the dishes are from different regions of Africa, though.

I know a doctor from Nigeria.. but he's not what we consider to be black.. He looks moroccan.. and a little more on the caucasian side, if that makes any sense.. He cooks "traditional Nigerian" dishes which incorporate the use of chutney and curry.. and his cooking style is similar to Moroccan. His primary spice is Masala.. and he cooks chicken and pork just like we do, except for the spice and curry sauce.

From what region is the food at Benachin in the French Quarter?

I wasn't really impressed with that place, the one time I tried it.

My response was a set up response. I am shocked it took this long for your anticipated comment to be made.

Johnny's doesn't suck, it's just ok but it's certainly not the end all to beat all some of you beat offs think it is.
