Going for a weekend getaway in a couple weeks, which apparently isn't enough advance warning to get a table at Per Se or Le Bernardin or even Gramercy Tavern. Who knew.

We arrive around noon on Friday and leave at 3 on Sunday. The only reservation I've made is for the Bar Room at Modern for lunch Saturday - going to tour MoMa before. For dinner I was thinking about starting at the Plaza for drinks and walking along the park to somewhere nearby.

We also have friends in the West Village so might do that Friday night, if y'all have some favorite spots down there.

I took my parents to Frankie and Johnnie's Steakhouse on 37th between 5th ave and 6th ave. The food was great and the history of the place is pretty cool (John Barrymore's former townhouse).

Vezzo Thin Crust Pizza on 31st and Lex was one of my favorite pizza places in midtown.

My wife really liked the restaurant at Modern.

Anyway, ABC Kitchen is good.

Bar Boulud (Daniel Boulud's joint that isn't Daniel) is a litte further north than Midtown, but it's not a bad cab ride. Only eat there if you're into charcuterie and such. My wife is a vegetarian and she only goes because I love it.. it's not one of her favorites.

Ma Peche is great. One of my favorite things to do is grab lunch there, get some sweets from Milk Bar, then walk over to Central Park to hang out and eat the sweets (may be a little cold for hanging in Central Park while you're there).

I'll add Blue Water Grill.

My wife lived one block from Union Square for a few years. When I get home later, I'll try to remember to ask her for some suggestions.

Sofrito NYC - a great little Puerto Rican restaurant with good pricing and HUGE portions. A close friend of mine that is Puerto Rican took us there on a salsa dancing night. Very entertaining atmosphere.

Recommend getting the Pernil con Arroz y Gandules- Roast pork with rice and plantains

The Breslin

Eataly Technically in Flatiron, 5th Avenue at Madison Square Park is a couple blocks outside of Chelsea.

Morimoto for great sushi in Chelsea

Gotham Bar and Grill I really love this place.. It's been around a for about 25 years. It's a New York classic.
Union Square Cafe is scheduled to close when their lease terminates, at the end of 2015. I wouldn't miss the opportunity to dine here. In Union Square a couple of blocks outside Chelsea.
FISH if you're walking around the West Village and want a very East Coast, salty sea dog kind of a restaurant experience. It's like a restaurant that you'd think would've been there for 150 years. It's a great, inexpensive real New York seafood restaurant.. and I plug it shamelessly. Check out the Yellow fin tuna salad sandwich. You will never forget it. It's in the heart of the West Village, on Bleecker Street and you can walk from the West
village to the East Village on Bleecker. I'd suggest this walk. Go to NYU and walk up to Washington Square Park.

Visited NYC last week.

ABC kitchen was great for lunch. Pretzel dusted calamari and tuna sashimi were awesome. Also really enjoyed the ravioli.

My favorite place we went for dinner has to be Buddakan in Chelsea. We started with edamame dumplings and lobster spring roll which everyone enjoyed. I got the charred filet which was cooked perfectly.

I would suggest trying Le Bernardin for lunch. If you go to MoMa, it's a short walk, and if you can't get a reservation in the main dining room, show up when they open and you can eat in the lounge, which has table seating. I do this often and it's a great option. Around the corner from Le Bernardin is Aldo Sohm wine bar, opened by Eric Ripert (the chef/owner of Le Bernardin) and Aldo Sohm, the sommelier. They've got fantastic wines by the glass and also do small plates. The Bar Room at the Modern is great, I've eaten here many times and you're not really missing much by not being in the main dining room.

Ma Peche is the Momfuku outpost in mid-town. It's generally easy to get a table there, but they've changed the format recently in that it's now basically dim sum style, where they have carts rolling through the place and you choose off the carts. They do serve fried chicken at this location and it's damn good.

Marea is on Central Park South near Columbus Circle if you're in the mood for Italian seafood. It's a beautiful room with great food and service. The iconic red wine braised octopus fusili with bone marrow is popular here.

The West Village has many great restaurants. Empellon is great if you want jacked up Mexican and it's generally easy to get a table. L'Artusi is a really solid Italian spot as is Del'Anima. The Spotted Pig is also very good, but I don't think they take reservations and it's generally a shite show getting in unless you get there early or late. Enjoy, and report back!

I'm far from an expert but we're having brunch at Sarabeth's near the park. Just a few blocks north of St. Pat's.
