Salvatore’s Pizza
Full Moon BBQ
The Fish Market
Costa’s Mediterranean
Good food at all of these although none are fine dining. All are North of your hotel, across I-459.
There’s a number of chains in Patton Creek, which is right across the road from The Galleria. Twin Peaks, Saltgrass Steakhouse, Firebirds, and a J. Alexander’s offshoot are all in that area.
Cajun Steamer is also in Patton Creek, but that might be a disappointment for someone with regular access to Cajun food.
Near the Met you have Big Whiskeys as a local option, and several chains including Grimalidi’s, Longhorn, Walk Ons, and Beef O’Bradys.
All of those are 10-15 minutes tops away from your hotel.

Retired back to Baton Rouge after living in BHM for a decade... good God do I miss that town and its food and musical scene.
Great suggestions in this thread. Enjoy them all for me, will ya.
And if you wander into the heart of the SEC at Salem's Diner in downtown Homewood, enjoy the history and tell Wayne that "LSU" says hello. He'll know.

Milos single burger, extra sauce for dipping fries, sweet tea.

They also do carryout if you just want to eat in the hotel one night. The family meal for 4 comes with salad and breadsticks. The breadsticks are much smaller than they used to be, so I always order extras. They used to be like little loaves of bread and you got 4 of them in the meal, but now they're the smaller breadsticks. We usually get the Lasagna, but the chicken parm and chicken fettuccine are great too.

And this one is a little further away, but China Bistro on Rocky Ridge in Vestavia is a great authentic Chinese place. It would be about 10-15 minutes from the Met to get there, and it is really more of a takeout place. Not a lot of seating inside.
Grand Cantina on Acton Road for Mexican has been good. Get the steak, not the chicken. Everything we've ever ordered with chicken as the meat has been watery soupy chicken, but the steak is great.

Single patty dude, keep up. They make singles, doubles, etc

I'm not questioning the existence of a single patty burger, I'm questioning why you'd get one when a double exists, keep up.

Both have been mentioned but I would second Mr Ps and Blue Pacific in Hoover. I don’t get out that way much but those are two that are worth the drive for me.
Cajun Cleaver might be worth a look as well. My experience there is more on the whole pig and premade items but everything they do is good. I would be surprised if their sandwiches are not.

quote:Ate there one time; food is pretty good. Had the weirdest waiter I've ever had serve me there. He asked if we were ready to give him our order. We said no, give us a few minutes. He just stood by the table like a lunatic as we went back to discussing whatever it was we were talking about. We had to tell him he could leave and come back

Someone on this site recommended Salems a few years ago and now I go there all the time. Wayne and Joyce are the best. Great Philly cheesesteak and breakfast spot. There is always a crew of “regulars” in there shooting the shite about SEC football, hunting and life.
Not many places like Salems anymore

They'll do a philly omelt from breakfast and you can have them wrap it in a tortilla and grill it up, one of my go to's for breakfast if i'm not getting the trashcan. Also, can't remember what Wayne called it but they have an off menu item that one of their old regulars used to have them do, where they'd make the Philly and put it on top of a plate of french fries and then smother it in brown gravy. It was so good
. Big Ed maybe. Basically a Philly poutine.
