There was a place called the Gold Mine in the Quarter back in the late 80s/early 90s we used to go to in high school and while at LSU. Haven’t been back to NO in years though, so not sure if it’s still there.

Goldmine is very much alive.

I love all the magazine street bars. Could spend the day bar hopping starting at monkey hill and working my way down.

I remember getting a room in the Landmark in Metarie and going up to the restaurant/bar on the top floor. Eating and drinking up there for awhile then going back to the room . Would party there until around eleven and stroll to that little nightclub next door.

There was always a decent band cranking up around then and by midnight it would be shoulder to shoulder in that place. That trip was always a good time.
I moved out of the US for a few years and when I got a chance to go back that whole trip had gone away

Polly sold it a while back. Service industry is just different now. Same as 20 years ago when things changed.

Fyi, frick polly

Spent a lot of time at Bon Temps when Rebirth had a standing Thursday - I believe - show. Slow and off nights at Miss Mae's was a go to as well as Kingpin. Lastly, I always loved seeing shows at The Maple Leaf. I haven't been to NOLA in years though.

Timed it once. It's about a 13.5 minute ride.

Yep, it was maspero. Seafood platter for 25 bucks, still! Best deal in the city. Can’t beat it after a boozy day out in need of a recovery meal.

IIRC, a Bacardi 151 shot lit on fire with a lighter, then dropped into a cup of beer, then downed quickly by the consumer. Immediately followed by "holy shite, that tastes just like Dr. Pepper." Am I missing something else?
