Man that place is awesome.

I grabbed:

12lbs of headless 10-15ct Royal Reds

5 lbs of 6-8ct Royal Reds

2lbs ahi tuna (sushi grade)

2lbs salmon (sushi grade)

2lbs swordfish (sushi grade)

Dozen boiled crabs

Only thing that was high as giraffe pussy was the boiled crawfish @ $5.50 lb

I thought my wife was going to puke when I asked to try the swordfish and the monger cuts me a big giant chunk (I was thinking he was going to give me a small sliver. I bit into that thing and was in heaven. My wife don't eat much seafood, and won't touch sushi.

Yea....we (like 8 people) probably ate a pound of tuna before we got back to the dock on our last offshore trip.

Boiled crawfish is a staple of mine but I wouldn't eat free ones from a place in Pensacola (that is where it is right?) in September

Agreed. Grouoer/snapper throats for the win!

The prices are great too. Sea Bass at Whole Foods is like $29 a pound. It's $18 at Joe Patti.

I never got the love for royal reds. I like other shrimps just as much for half the price.

If you cook anything in a ton of spices, etc, it will all taste the same. Cook royal reds in plain salt water or broil them (like I do) with just salt, pepper,& olive oil, you will notice the major difference.

Anyway you cook them, hot water or oven just do not overcook. If we are going to eat like boiled shrimp,I bring the plain water to a rolling boil, turn off, drop reds in then stir for no more than 4 minutes a pound if frozen 3 minute or a little less if thawed and they peel like a champ. Dip in clarified garlic butter/ghee and enjoy.

That's not sashimi.

The only thing that sucks about Joe Patti's is the shrimp. They are all IQF shrimp, which is fine. But what they do to sell them is take a bunch of frozen shrimp and pack them in a tub of water to thaw. So you're buying half squashed, waterlogged formerly IQF shrimp. Everything else is top notch, but I buy shrimp elsewhere.
