My evaluation of Gallagher's Grill in Covington.

My son came home for the weekend from LSU and he met us at Gallagher's Grill in Covington. We eat their regularly but this is the first time I've given my opinion on the dining experience.
While waiting for my son to arrive me and my wife had drinks. She had a lemon drop and I had a Kettle One and cranberry with a squeeze of lime. That's just my basic go to cocktail. Nothing special. While we were waiting Pat Gallagher came to our table and conversed with us. That's always a nice touch when the owner meets with his customers, IMO.
Anyway when my son arrives we order three appetizers: blackened tuna stack layered with fried wontons and a wasabi ginger sauce, bacon wrapped scallops and crab cakes.
Every appetizer was A+. The blackened tuna was very rare (just like I like it) and had an awesome texture combination between the buttery tuna protein and crispy fried wonton carbs and with the background of wasabi and ginger it was just awesome.
The bacon wrapped scallops were served on a sauce but I did not pay enough attention to what the sauce was. IIRC it resembled a slightly spicy hollandaise. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised that the bacon wrapped around the scallops were cooked to perfection. A lot of times when you get bacon wrapped whatever the bacon is under cooked. The bacon in this situation was perfectly crispy around the delicious scallops.
Next were the crab cakes. I did not eat them because I have a slight allergy to crab. But by wife and son killed it. They came served in a plate of sizzling butter.
Next I had the turtle soup. Nothing to complain about. The soup was very good. I love how Gallagher's puts a slight hint of clove in the soup. Not overwhelming just a hint in the background. Really nice. And the meat is shredded which is another nice touch in terms of texture. The roux was the perfect color too. I also like how they do not cook the egg in the soup and put it in the soup as it's served. This keeps the egg from getting overcooked and rubbery. Very good soup.
Next we all eat side salads with the house creole vinaigrette. Love that little salad.
Then came the entrees. The wife and kid had the 11 oz filets and I had the bone in ribeye (Cowboy). Over the top. All steaks were ordered medium but on the sizzling plates they come out slightly under medium. But as you let the steak rest on the sizzling plate it cooks perfectly to your desired temperature at the table within a minute. A+.
We also had sides of potatoes au gratin and cream spinach but we only eat a couple bites of each and doggy bagged the rest. They were also very good but we just couldn't eat more because we were saving room for desert.
For desert my wife go the Ooey Gooey, my son got the Creme Brulee and I got the Key Lime pie. I did not taste theirs but they said there deserts were awesome. In terms of the Key Lime pie is was awesome too. Sometimes with Key Lime pie it is common to find the macadamia nut crust will go stale. In fact it is so common I was expecting the key lime pie crust to be stale. It wasn't.
If there was a possible complaint, it could be the dining room is quiet noisy for some people. But I personally don't mind a noisy dining room so it did not bother me.
Overall the experience was very good, service was excellent, and the food was over the top. I would recommend with no issues. Finally you can expect to spend between $100 to $200+ per head with tip depending on what you order and your taste and consumption volume for alcoholic beverages.
Bottom line: would recommend.

Sounds good - I’ve never been but that seems like a large amount of food. Love to see it.

Yes it was. That's why we had to doggy bag almost all of our sides. Plus it was our first meal of the day and we were hungry so our eyes were bigger than our bellies.

you had a full appetizer, turtle soup, salad, a 22oz bone in ribeye, potatoes, and key lime pie. your eyes thought they were eating for an elephant.

That place is always solid but
This is true. I normally get a few OF’s in early so I don’t mind as much

Sounds good, but you need to teach your son to eat a ribeye instead of that woman cut.

A filet? C’mon man

I always say that a ribeye is the superior steak, but at Gallagher's, the fillet is the way to go. It's their best

I medium filet is a tragedy, that’s what is.

They are fantastic!!! The scalloped potatoes and Brussels's sprouts are always a given side order. Had a couple of their steaks and you can't go wrong with any of them. We need to go again soon.

his KLP recipe and technique are second to none. He puts it in all his restaurants. I always get it to go if I don't have room to eat it at the table.

So was it quiet or noisy?
Just kidding. Good review.

Great review.
Sounds like my experience last Friday way down south at 527 in Mandeville.
