The slow death spiral seems to be continuing. LINK

I can't tell you the last time I went into a Winn-Dixie. Their "card" prices are ok, their regular prices are insane, at least at the one by us. For what they charge, I can go to Breaux Mart or Rouses and get better service and better items at just about a good a price.

Now... if they are going to close 200 stores... I know I am dreaming an impossible dream... but if HEB ever wanted to have an eastward expansion... that would be awesome.

Update: Well, 7 of the stores are off the market. Shoppers Value is buying them. LINK

There is 40-something winn dixie's in LA. HEB has about 375 stores. I feel like they could take that on without a tremendous amount of issue. Trying to pick up all 200 stores Bi-Lo wants to close would be way too ambitious for HEB... but 40 stores one state over? I feel like that's very doable.

HEB needs to come to Dallas before going to Louisiana.

You should be supporting more Associated Grocers toed stores. Better meat, better bakeries than an HEB. RIP LeBlancs

Central Market (HEBs Whole Foods) is what needs to expand

it seems to be a regular trend to make fake high prices unless you join their "club" and use a store card.

if they would just charge regular prices for everything they would double their business but that makes way too much sense for greedy corporate types to understand the way the economy works

They have to believe there is value in the tracking data. And I'm sure there is, but I don't know if this is the best way to get it.

HEB won’t be coming here (sadly). Will probably be either Kroger or Publix. Could see Brookshires/Super One scooping some up as well.

Publix is the best chain grocery store hands down. Expensive but the meat, produce and bakery items are excellent.

I’m hearing rumblings of Publix purchasing Rouses.

Every cashier has a card they will scan so you don;t have to sign up at all.

Haven't been in the Wegmans up here in VA yet, but need to check it out.
New Orleans is in desperate need of a grocery wars, like Richmond is going through. We have had Krogers for years, but recently got Wegmans, Publix, Aldi, and Lidl. Kind of surprised Food Lion has survived.
I have even gone on Krogers FB page, and asked them to come to New Orleans.

Those rumors have been around for a while. Will be interesting to see this play out. This could significantly impact Rouses if one of their suitors can pick up stores in LA for cheap. The Rouses number to sell....not cheap.
