I love it but will admit my last visit in March I didn't think it was quite as good. Portions seemed smaller. Something about the flavor was just off. Not bad, mind you, just not as great as usual.

The food is good and it's consistently the same. Service is good, as well. We enjoy it.
You can substitute thick cut catfish, for thin, on any plate for an extra couple of dollars, if that's your preference.
Their half a fried chicken platter is, also, good. I get that more often than anything.

Is simply my all time favorite place to eat!

Had a work event there last week that started with a guided trip to Turtle Cove, then drinks and dinner on the outside deck. Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere immensely. I especially enjoy traveling there by boat from my camp. Food and service has always been good.

My dad's all time favorite place in the world to eat. We would eat there going and coming when I was a kid on trips to visit our Yat kin folk. And damn near every vacation we went involved a detour down there. Like from Monroe to the Grand Canyon via Middendorfs. It's been about 6-8 months since I've been, but it was the same as it always is. Outstanding.

There is something about our parent's generation and Middendorfs. I wonder how much the food has changed over the last 30 years.

Too much batter on the softshells for my taste. My favorite is the whole broiled flounder without the crabmeat. They do a very good job on them. I also like the gumbo and turtle soup. Their fried shrimp are very good (not much batter).

None that I can tell. I'm 35 and I started going when I was 0 years old. Best I can tell it's been the same old Middendorfs that whole time. My experience did improve drastically when I got old enough to buy myself beer in there though...

I went a few weeks ago and enjoyed it... only thing I didn't care for is their "white chocolate" pecan pie... apparently they were out of white chocolate so they substituted coconut cream w/o telling me
I also agree that the portions seemed smaller... I got the "large" thin catfish plate and it was the amount of what used to be the "small" catfish plate.
As mentioned by others, the softshell crabs and flounder are best bets.

Softshells are great. The thin cut catfish is a point of contention here but I love it. The outside patios are great.
Good boiled crabs too.

Went in the middle of June last year
I agree with the catfish, but I'm with them thick and thin.
The mix of the two is definitely needed
But the boiled crabs were the cleanest and prettiest I've ever had.

My wife and I went during March for our anniversary and this was our experience also. I have always loved Middendorf's but one not so great meal from them will definately not keep me from going back. I've ate there many times and this was the first time that I wasn't totally impressed. When we went I ordered a seafood platter and my wife had stuffed shrimp. The fish on my seafood platter was wonderful as always. But the stuffed crab and my wife's stuffed shrimp were lacking seasoning. It was really bland.

This may be the first thread about a restaurant where some blowhard didn't wade in three replies into the thread and say it's utter crap.

Despite living in Southeast Louisiana my entire life I've still never eaten here. And I'm a thin fried catfish fanatic. I've been meaning to try this place, bow that summer is rolling around might head up there soon.

Do it. There is no better thin cut catfish and the crabs are always "fat"
