Always bake them in the oven during winter. Don't have them in summer. Now, wife wants some microwaved. Any tips?

I clean the potatoes, prick them with a fork all over. Moisten paper towel and wrap potatoes. Cook them on high for 5 minutes and then turn it over and then 5 more minutes about. Squeeze it to see if it is done.

Some people love em, but they get rubbery and nasty in my opinion. I would rather take the time to bake that sucker up. Or chop boil and mash it.

Microwave potatoes suck.

Hmmm, I wonder if splitting them in half would reduce the baking time in the oven and come out with a better taste.
Just don't want to run the oven that long and heat up the house.

wash, poke holes, put in microwave, press potato button, wait, press again if necessary, wrap in foil, let sit wrapped 5-10 minutes.

Try this. Nuke for 3 or 4 minutes each side. Pop in 400 oven naked for another 20 minutes. Skin outside is firm, inside not rubbery.

Cuts down on cooking time.

I've done this before, and it usually comes out pretty good if you're only doing 1-2 potatoes.

Microwaving definitely doesn't get the skin right, but if all you're after is the meat, then it's ok. It seems like I lived off baked potatoes cooked solely in the microwave when I was in college.

8 minutes per potato. I've done this for years and it's good everytime.

He doesn't like to heat up his domicile with the oven on.

What luck! A cold front came through and it's 50 degrees outside and very cool in the house. Baked the potatoes in the oven. Came out great.
Thanks for all the advice.
