I can't think of any. When I was younger I would drive to Luthers in Metairie for bbq.
Bbq disappeared from the area and returned more recently much improved.

I remember Luther's BBQ in Metairie very well. It was my favorite BBQ restaurant...I think the only one around at the time. It was good BBQ for a chain restaurant. They also had good onion rings as I recall...and I always got a root beer float in a frozen glass for dessert. I wish Luther's BBQ would come back.

Post Katrina the only decent place was that Texas BBQ restaurant across from Corkey’s. There is an Indian/Pakistan place there now.

Baw BBQ bumporoma

Opening this Friday

"After prospering in New Orleans, Moe’s Original Bar B Que is scheduled to open on Friday at 1101 N. Causeway Blvd. in Metairie. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner starting at 11am, Moe’s will offer its original style of Alabama BBQ, fresh seafood and fish as well as Southern sides and flavorful desserts. With everything prepared in house daily, the fast casual restaurant will also provide large party takeout orders and full service catering.

“Our 2100 square foot BBQ joint has an open floor plan with mix of low and high top tables available or guests can eat at the bar complete with several 50 inch TVs and a full premium bar,” said local owner/operator Bryan Hargett. “As our location is easy to access from all areas of the greater New Orleans area and offers 15 parking spots in our lot, Moe’s Original Bar B Que is the perfect place to watch the game with friends, bring coworkers for lunch or take the family for a fun dinner.”

Moe’s has good wings, everything else is meh. Wouldn’t go there to get something besides wings. I’ve always wondered what Moe’s considers “original Alabama style.” It’s always just seemed like a mash up of other BBQ styles like most chains.

This is the first BBQ I ever experienced lol. I’m not sure if it was the Metairie location or not. I remember them opening several locations in New Orleans growing up. I remember loving it as a little kid, but have no memory of what it tastes like today now that I have had great BBQ. Do they still exist? Would love to try it again.

There was a little BBQ restaurant in the little strip mall on Houma (behind where Jimmy John's is now) and near where Corky's later opened.

Luther's was only acceptable because there was so little choice. I wish Corky's would come back.

Texas BBQ. Luthers was an OK BBQ place with an overthetop sweet sauce.

Texas BBQ.
Yeah, I thought that was it. I remember ordering delivery from them in the 70's. Wasn't there a Harold's BBQ somewhere in Metairie, too?

ETA: Now that I think about it, I think it was Harold's Texas BBQ.

t00f, if you're old enough to remember Texas BBQ, do you by any chance remember Wimpy's Hamburgers on Vets between Causeway and Bonnabel? I think it was only open about 5 or 6 years in the mid 70's.

ETA: They had pretty good burgers which had lettuce but not tomatoes, and special sauce. Their fried chicken was as close to Popeye's I've ever had, and they had New Orleans style hot tamales that were excellent.

No I might have been out of town when Wimpy’s was around but Katrina shuttered Luther’s and Texas was around after Katrina, for at least a few years.

The name of the restaurant was originally “Harold’s Texas BBQ” but when the Dad (Mr. Harold) got out his son took it over and called it “ The Texas BBQ company”. They had the location on Houma Blvd in Metairie and one out in the east. I used to go there as a kid w my Dad.

Here is some info from Fitz. One thing I forgot about is Juicy Lucy took over that spot. Their hamburgers were awful.

Thanks for the article. Yea it was Going to be a Poboy place from the westbank but I think it was open for ab a month before it became Juicy Lucy’s. I went once to JL’s and it was terrible. I hear Shayan’s is pretty good though and have been meaning to try it.
