Gus', Rendezvous are a couple Memphis staples. Also a couple places on Beale St, if you are staying downtown...

Huey's is a pretty good place for lunch. A lot of ppl love Rendezvous. Personally not a fan. Dyers is a must, especially after a night out.

As far as dinner, Flight, Itta Bena, Folks Folly, Restaurant Iris, Felicia Suzannes. All great choices.

Drinks- Molly Fontaine Lounge is a cool place, Bardog Tavern (sort of a locals place), and of course Beale St.

If you feel like braving the hood you need to check out Uncle Lou's chicken. Don't get me wrong, Gus's is great but I can get good fried chicken a lot of places. Lou's is my version of crack, they always laugh at the crazy skinny white boy doing his best to put down a 12 piece.

As far as BBQ, Rendezvous is a fun atmosphere but the food isn't that great. Go in, have a beer and the sausage plate and then head over to central for some good BBQ.

Went there over the summer at the recommendation of this board. It was a really cool place. I liked the atmosphere a lot and the food was delicious.

Gus’s is one of my favorite eateries, anywhere.

Uncle Lou’s, with their chicken dipped in “sweet spicy love” sauce, isn’t far behind.

I think Memphis bbq is overrated, but Central & BBQ Shop get a lot of love here.

Yep, that’s how I feel about pretty much every Memphis bbq joint that’s been recommended to me. Give me TX or Carolina bbq any day of the week over Memphis.

Gus has killer chicken but only average sides. Fact is most bbq I’ve had from TX to TN is not as good as I do on my Kamado Joe.

Los Tortugas Mexican deli in Germantown is awesome but they will go all “soup nazi” on you if you don’t order carefully.
Gus’s is a must for me and now I have to check out uncle Lou’s.

Good thread on this: LINK /

I second AndrewMichael and Hog n Hominy.

And Rendezvous gets a lot of flak here, but it is a unique place. And the lamb ribs and suasage/cheese plate is not a bad way to start an evening.
