How many hours do you have on your drive to the beach? If it's a long drive, does your cooler have the ability to keep it frozen solid.

We discovered one time that things thaw faster than we expected them to, and when something like lasagna is a liquid with sheets of stuff, it's like a domino effect if someone steps on the brakes hard, and the lasagna deconstructs itself (which it won't do if it's precooked.)

See, I find it to be really fun. If the group isn't wanting to go out to dinner that night, what the hell else am I going to do when I'm done with daytime stuff and back in the condo/cabin/etc? Sit on the balcony for 6 hours until I pass out?

The OP is talking about throwing a frozen lasagna in the oven to apparently feed a crowd. Paper plates and solo cups. Not putting on the smooth jazz, lighting the candles, decanting the wine and making a cheese soufflé.

However in the spirit, put on the muzak, decant the wine, draw a bubble bath, light the candles and toss the Stouffers in the oven. Want to go one step further? Buy your salad already shredded in the bag and since tomato sauce is involved open a can of corn. Voila!

I’m all for cooking a nice dinner anywhere and anytime including on vacation as I’ve done for 40 years. But if I do that - lasagna won’t be on the menu.

If you make the lasagna a couple days before leaving, freeze it, then bake it there, how is this any different than stoufers that you buy at the beach?

It'll taste exponentially better. And you get all the credit and make everyone else cook dinners for you.

It’s no different except you 1 don’t have to make it 2 don’t have to freeze and 3 don’t have to transport. More room for beer in the ice chest or one less ice chest. Which is why I pointed it out as an option to making your own. And you are assuming everyone can make a better lasagna.

Explain how homemade is exponentially better. I don’t think it applies.

I’ll tell you what. Go buy a Stouffers lasagna. Not a store brand but that particular one. Take it out of the foil pan, put it in your own Pyrex, cook as instructed and serve.

Then come back here and tell me if everyone said your lasagna was disgusting. If you do I’ll call you a liar. You know how I know that? Because I’ve seen my wife do that and serve to high school sports teams more than once and I’ve heard them all tell her how much they like her “homemade” lasagna and watch it disappear. Now at the risk of her being a fraud her reasoning is the same above and her Pyrex are serving dishes and after it all she’s admitted to it being store bought.

You people are funny.

You seem pretty worked up over this.

Is your 401(k) portfolio full of Stoufer's stock?

To be fair, what a-hole would say this to someone if they thought they cooked it? Even if I didn't like something someone made I would be polite and eat it without complaint.

Oh the last thing I’m going t get worked up about is lasagna. I just happen to think if there is one frozen item I would and have eaten that is as good as pretty much any lasagna I’ve ever had it’s this one. Then again as I said before I’m no aficionado so there’s that, but surprise, surprise we’ve got a board full of Italian grandmothers posting here.

But then again apparently your lasagna is exponentially better so I would say make ahead and freeze. Voila.

I don’t have any Nestle stock but I do have Monsanto and Tractor Supply. Want me to tell you how much I like Roundup?

They would eat it without complaint because it’s not disgusting. Apparently not your cup of tea though.

Not exactly the most culinarily discerning audience, d’accord? If we based the measure of deliciousness on what high school athletes enjoy, Doritos with pickle juice shots and sour patch kids for dessert would make the cut.

I for one will always cook on a beach vacation. To me, having to go out for dinner after a day at the beach is borderline miserable in summer season. Long waits, few places that take reservations, poor price to value ratio, often mediocre ingredients. If OP wants to make the effort to cook from scratch, why be discouraging? You sound grumpy today.

Big beach vacation and several pans of lasagna I took the assumption it involved at least a few kids. Using that assumption the kids palettes don’t count? Maybe it’s a houseful of adults.

None of my posts say anything about going out to dinner.

I hardly think offering a different opinion than you is discouraging the Original Poster.

Good for you that you will always cook on a beach vacation. You’ve made that clear. The OP is cooking at home and reheating not cooking from scratch. So what difference does it make if she puts a store bought lasagna or a homemade lasagna in the oven to reheat? It’s a personal preference. I get it. I offered a different route that may save time, money and space.

I’m not grumpy but you seem rigid. That horse. It’s high isn’t it?

The Stouffer’s lasagna hill seems like a weird hill to die on.

She’s like that in every single one of her posts. Very much holier than thou and condescending.

Meh...it’s entertainment Junior. I’ve got a nice David Arthur Cab Franc to sip on, a snoring lab at my feet, a thermostat set at 68 and an empty quiet house for the night.

I hardly think your metaphor applies to an Italian American noodle pie. But whatever...get cooking.

Lord did I hurt your feelings? How do you survive Sally?

Didn’t you call my suggestion disgusting? Wouldn’t that be considered a mean response? Next thing you’ll want to hit me with your purse.
