Louisiana coffee roasters are raising prices as tariffs make it more expensive to import coffee beans, adding to recent challenges for a local industry tied to the globally traded commodity. J.M. Smucker Co., which roasts coffee for Folgers, Dunkin’ and Café Bustelo at its facilities in New Orleans and employs nearly 700 workers, said in June that it planned to increase prices in response to the 10% tax on all imports that President Donald Trump announced in April.

Baton Rouge-based Community Coffee said Wednesday that the rise in prices for green coffee beans, which it roasts before selling to consumers, forced it last month to increase what it charges. And French Truck Coffee, the New Orleans-based chain with locations in Baton Rouge and Memphis, Tennessee, told customers on Monday it was adding a temporary 4% surcharge on all in-store coffee-related purchases.

Hard to keep track of what this administration is doing, but wasn't it announced they were only going to raise tariffs on goods not able to be grown/produced in the US?

Guess it's too late now if the larger corporations are already increasing prices. Blanket tariffs gave them all the cover they needed.

Good on French Truck on their approach though, very transparent and consumer friendly. Excellent coffee.

Not saying it doesnt have an impact; but it is funny they interview Cherry and her shite has shrunk in size and gone up in price every single year leading up to this.

10oz of her coffee was $22 last time I bought some. 3 years ago it was $18.

Some of the best coffee I have had though.

Coffee prices have been pretty low the last ten or so years and are actually just now starting to correct themselves...Weather in these regions has also been worse than normal...

the tariffs are quickly becoming a shield for these shops to pass on prices, its been tiresome the last few months in the Counter Culture circles

ETA: Cherry is a joke...Get Alinea or Mammoth if you want actual coffee

I thought it was the opposite in that green coffee prices have been at historical highs. Most quality single origins are running $17-20/12oz bag. Agree about Alinea, they are legit. Need to order some from him.

Where can I walk in and get Alinea? Haven't tried it.

Is it better than Mammoth, because Mammoth is really good, but no better than Cherry.

I’ve switched from community cafe special to Folgers black silk. It’s been great so far.

NOLA.com is weird. This was not behind a paywall for me. I do not subscribe to the site. Many times I'll click on a link and it will be behind the wall, but not always. Sorry for the frustration.

BTW: Don't ever subscribe to NOLA.com. They make it impossible to quit.
