Labor Day weekend for the game.
Only familiar with the Costa Mesa area and nothing else.
Give me some great places for dinner and drinks after.
Steaks
Sushi
Mexican
Brunch
Or just a can’t miss restaurant.

Go to park’s KBBQ.
Sushi - I wouldn’t go to Nobu but you can try Nazawa, it’s an omakase only restaurant. It’s superb

I just came here with a list of recommendations and the first three I tried aren't even open currently/anymore. Freakin California and their COVID crap.
There are a ton of sushi spots, ranging from regular sushi to this:
For Mexican, Gracias Madre on Melrose is fun and popular but kinda leans meatless.
Mercado is super popular Mexican food and they have a location in Pasadena, Los Angeles, AND Hollywood. I really like the spot.
Stroll down Melrose and the side streets of West Hollywood and you'll find the best that L.A. has to offer. Plus, assuming you're going with a wife, she will very much enjoy perusing the area. And you'll get to see so many badass cars driving around.
Speaking of which -- Cecconi's on Melrose is a great place to people watch. The space is gorg and the cars they park up front are legit. They do (or did) a great happy hour with food items, but you have to arrive right when it starts.

We’ve never been to Urasawa and neither have you. This isn’t just one of the most expensive meals in LA, it’s one of the most expensive meals in the country. A dinner for two here can easily cross the $1,200 mark - far more if you’re going to drink. But if you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience (with some of the finest sushi in the world), head to North Rodeo Dr. to get it. Just leave your phones in your pocket, or prepare to not be at Urasawa anymore.

I remember reading about urasawa when I worked out there. Seemed like their menu would go up in price about 25 dollars every month

for sushi, you'll need to state your budget, and whether you want omakase or regular menu.
Nobu has great food, but is extremely expensive.
I believe this poster meant to recommend Nozawa, and if so, I'll suggest their regular menu sister restaurant, Sugarfish (which was also reccomended in a different thread). There are locations all throughout LA, it's very reasonably priced, and features the best nigiri I've ever had.
if you'll be venturing into the San Fernando valley, I'll also recommend Iroha or Kabosu. Both are significantly less expensive than Nobu.
I'm not into omakase, so I can't really comment on them. the good ones are typically pricey and hard to get reservations for.
for steak, Mastros is probably your best bet.
for mexican, I'd look up one of those online guides (eg. la eater, laist, etc.) and find something that will be convenient to your location. I like el compadre in Hollywood. there are some notable mexican places that come up in every "best of" guide that have been around since the early 1900s.

WeHo should be fine, but I believe melrose has turned into a shitshow over the past year or so.
Melrose in the 90s and early 2000s was one of LAs top destinations. it hasn't been that way for a while though.

That sucks. I was in LA when COVID hit and everyone initially shut down and lost their minds. I didn't make it to Melrose that time because it was dreary, cold, and rainy all week. But I had been maybe a year prior and hadn't had an issue. Everything was still nice to me, and had good crowds.
Cecconi's, Taste on Melrose, Gracias Madre, Catch LA, etc. To be fair, that's all specifically in one small corridor of Melrose that might still be fine compared to the rest.
Man, looking at Google maps now it is wild to me how many places are showing as permanently closed from just my last visit last March.

I think pinks sucks and isn’t worth the wait, but if one likes hard shell tacos, Tito’s is an absolute must.

It is one of the most underwhelming food establishments anywhere on the entire planet.
