I'd kill for some here in Dallas. Seafood here is pretty shitty for the most part.
Pappadeaux's, along with any of the Pappas brand, are generally above average.

Blind butcher is right by dodies. Their poutine and fresh sausage is so good.
No never tried it. Will have to check it out it seems.

FWIW
I recently patronized the Ralph and Kacco's on Bluebonnet
I went because I know they would have crawfish bisque. It was very good. Also got the taste of Louisiana sampler app with fried alligator, popcorn shrimp, fried crawfish. Also enjoyable.
I worked there for a couple of years (2000-2002) so I drop in periodically out of curiosity. It has changed a bit since when I worked there.

Used to be a place in BR to see and be seen. Was good food and quality service.
I haven't been in at least 15 years but it came up in conversation the other day with someone. She said one of her out of town clients had memories of that place and was in town and insisted on going. Basically it is on par with Picadilly now. Horrible food, terrible service and she said the entire place was nasty dirty.

Since it's not recommended much at all here, is this place one of the tired dinosaurs like Drusilla's or do they have decent seafood, and if so, why no mention, and what's good there?
They're kinda like Druscilla's, but worse, much much worse. At least Druscilla's still has decent, albeit not great, food. Some of the stuff at Ralph and Kakoo's is embarrassing, which is sad because it wasn't like that 20 years ago. They changed chefs at some point along the way and the quality went way down. Like many BR staples, it's subsisting on the nostalgia at this point.

Didn't they used to sell the mix to make the hushpuppies. I seem to remember seeing the bags in the lobby last time I was there.

I ate at drusilla once and it was fricking gross.

So has the quality gone down or has the palate of Baton Rouge changed over the years?
The quality went down when Piccadily bought it...or at least there was a stigmatism associated with it being owned by a cafeteria.

Drusilla (food sucks IMO) has better hush puppies

Yeah, we went to Drusilla a while back because they had some weeknight oyster special. It was kind of nasty, like the carpets smell nasty. Plus, my wife got sick from her meal.

I'll be glad to share it. It's at home in one of my cook books. I'll get it when I get home. I'm not sure about the recipe on Nola.

In my opinion the one in Bossier has declined drastically over the last decade. I used to really enjoy going there, but the last few times have been absolute garbage.

Found this cookbook cleaning out at my grandmas awhile back. It's got some great recipes from Ralph and Kacoo as well as other "guest recipes" from other relatives or restaurants they visited (each recipe is signed at the bottom so you know which ones are R&Cs and which aren't)
Haven't been to the restaurant in years though

And again, it hasn't been owned by them in a very long time

Who owns it now?
I couldn't tell you. But I can tell you that it wasn't even owned by Picadilly when I worked there. And that was over 15 years ago.
I know when I worked there it was something like Cobb investments but it was sold to some Texas restaurant group shortly after I left. Not sure who owns it now but I'll try to find out.
