Yeah I am curious to see the project as it progresses.
I ordered yesterday evening from foxcigar.com for the first time after reading someone else praise them here recently. Due to other praises I ordered three different 5 packs of Carrillo sticks (Pledge, Encore, La Historia). Looking forward to trying these out. This board better not fail me

I am in the cleaning and temp regulation stage. Trying to dial in the warmest setting and will check temp later this evening. Shooting for 65° to 70°.

I don’t normally smoke during the week, but the wife and tikes are off playing with friends. Taking this moment to enjoy me time with me vices.

What a terrible smoke. Burned completely uneven and tastes like a week old dirty ashtray. Been a while since I had one of my RPs, but the others were good. Is this just a bad stick or might it be something wrong with my humidor?

Likely just a bad stick. It happens, although it shouldn’t. Was that a Cameroon wrapper from RP? I had one canoe on me like that a few months ago.

I think if you talk about coffee on the FDB you have to include cigars. Both are enjoyed at the end of a meal.

Was the 1990 maduro. I’m thinking just a bad stick, because my Oliva V burned perfectly on Saturday. They are all in the same small humi, so would think the OV would’ve had issues as well if it were the humi.

Probably bad stick. Such a bummer. The worst is when its your only smoke at hand

That looks like a bad stick. Did you try burning that part off and continuing the smoke?

I actually cut it off fresh beneath the ash and relit. The taste was terrible at that point, so I called it a night and threw it away. It didn't taste right from jump, but the cut and relighting really created a terrible taste. I know some sticks just wind up bad, so I was hoping it was that and not an issue with my storage. I can accept that. If I'm ruining all of them though, then I will be pissed

Dryboxing
I'm sure y'all probably knew this already, but there have been two things that have improved my enjoyment of cigars.
1. Ditching my shitty humidor for a tupperdore. Humidity stays at a constant 69% thanks to the boveda. It's awesome.
This led to a problem. Every cigar I smoked out the tupidor would fall apart when I got to the final 3'd. Too-humid. Probably need to switch to the 65% rh packs but in the mean time, I found a new use for my crappy humidor. Dryboxing.
Take a few cigars out of the tupperdor, put them in the empty humidor, and let them dry out for a day or two before smoking. Boom, problem solved. Cigar holds up though the entire smoke now.
I've read stories about the wrapper getting too dry by dryboxing, and the work around is to briefly dip the entire cigar - minus the foot - into a glass of water and pat dry with a paper towel before lighting it. I haven't done this yet, wondering if anyone else has.
Yeah yeah, CSB. :) Enjoy.
FYI: Fox has a deal on The Plasencia Alma Fuerte Natural Sixto - 5 pack for $65. It seems like a good deal if that's your thing. (you gotta be logged in to see the deal)

I have found relighting a cigar, once smoked for a bit, never turns out right. It tastes like an ashtray . If it happens again, try burning it off and see if that helps.

Ziplock bags work the same as Tupperware?

From strictly a humidity retention standpoint? I'd say so.
The tupperware gives you structural integrity so it' less likely you'll snap a cigar. Also, the tupperware has more airspace. I'd imagine it'd be a more even distribution. I'd worry about the cigars right next to the boveda pack getting all the moisture, and not ones towards the other end of the bag. Fancy humidifiers have fans in them to circulate the humid air, so it must be a thing.

I've never had a humidor. I keep mine in ziplock bags inside my wooden bureau in my office.
Eta... But I don't store cigars linger than a week or 2. If it's brown, it's down.

Getting the grass cut on a Thursday always makes the weekend better. Pulled a La Aroma de Cuba from the humidor. Not sure where I got it, maybe a gift or picked up randomly by me. Sharing some porch time with my buddy.

Did the same and this lower humidity got me wanting to drink n smoke
Solid “bang for the buck” smoke tonight

I really like those Aroma de Cuba mi amors. Haven't had one in a while. Will have to pick one up next time I go to Pipers Haven.
I'm smoking an Alex Bradley presnado tonight. It's a good one.

I can not remember where I picked this up. Was a good smoke all the way down to the nub!
