My little haul today. I couldn’t resist that Opus #2. They had a brand new box out.

quote:I finally received an AI generated response. Basically it claimed they have to go through their inventory to see if there's a discrepancy. A further reply calling them out for AI generated a human response. I sent pictures showing there's no way the box could have been shipped using the shipping box they used. I didn't realize until today that all they should've needed was to look at the UPS shipment details (which showed it weighing only 1.8lb). It appears that they are trying to meet my expected timeline (the box on my hands by noon on Wednesday) so we'll see how this plays out tomorrow. I can't even go relax with a cigar thanks to my allergies kicking up.
That’s crazy to order a box and get a single. If they won’t reply to you, I’d get my credit card company involved.
ETA: They finally sent it today via Priority Express.

So Corona "gets it". They mailed it out Tuesday night via Priority Express and I received it last night with a nice note. Before receiving it yesterday I received an email obviously written without AI and full transparency with the multiple issues. I put the box into a Boveda Bag and an going to let it hang out for a few months.
I'm placing another order with them for one of the two new My Father "Father's Day" samplers. One has a selection of 8 sticks (2 each: Le Bijou 1922 Torpedo, Flor de las Antillas Toro, La Opulencia, The Judge Grand Robusto), an ashtray, lighter, and cutter. The other contains 10 sticks and comes with a small humidor.

Where would you guys recommend ordering as far as online sites is concerned? I want to start doing some bigger orders and the only shop around me just has such high markups because of where it is.

Someone here turned me on to CigarBid.com. If youre looking to try out cigars, they offer a huge variety and some great prices.
For my go-to cigars, I purchase from Cigars International, Fox Cigars and Smoke Shop. I just compare the four when I am ready for box purchases.

Take a few minutes to look at connections between online merchants and the brands. For example Holts has setup connective with Ashton. CigarPage has deep ties to Oliva. CigarPage is owned by the family who started Cigarbid. IIRC, cigarbid and CI are owned by the same company.
Also Privada has put together a good family "tree" of who makes what. Compare the two lists and you can figure out which branch is in line with what you like.
I would strongly suggest subscribing to Holt's COTM in the next 48 hours so you can get the May selections. The Don Carlos Personal Reserve, VSG Sorcerer, My Father #5, Oliva Conn Reserve Churchill, and Machanudo Cafe Hyde Park are a steal (value of $80) at $35. Each month's selections go out on the second Friday if the month.
Corona Cigar, Holts, CigarPage, Neptune, and Small Batch send solid cigars. Do comparison shipping though. Holt's sales aren't really sales... they're advertisements of what their normal prices are. Corona is great when they run 20% off $150+. Their singles prices skew a bit high though. If you're going to spend $500+, wait for a 20% sale to buy your boxes. They'll be offering it Father's Day weekend and July 4th. (I had an issue with them but the resolution met my expectations.)

Yeah, you start to follow blenders and factories. And you start to follow who they distribute through.
I use the high percentage off, no restrictions on higher end stuff.
To me saving 25% off of a daily smoke isn’t as big of a deal as saving 25% off a La Sirena Super Sea Monkey, Padron 50th, Kelner 80th LE, etc.
Not to say some retailer’s exclusives aren’t buried treasures for cheap. They certainly are. But to get started one must first do a minimum of research about who the blender and factories are.
It opens up an entirely new world of cigars, and helps prevent chasing every new limited edition that might not be worth chasing.
I have probably 2000 cigars stored and aging. It gets expensive, but again, some research and asking a couple of trusted sources keeps it from being even more expensive.
There are some incredibly expensive and incredibly inexpensive good cigars out there. There are also some incredibly expensive and inexpensive bad cigars out there.
eta, newer cigar smokers don’t realize that we live in the golden age of cigars. You can’t hardly go wrong with cigars between $8.00 - $16.00. It wasn’t this way when I started.

Cuban Creations in the French Quarter has a great selection and top end bar.

So my "corporate B&M" doesn't carry My Father. The lady who manages the location near me said that there was some dispute between corporate and My Father. However they carry LADC and San Cristobal. My locally owned B&M's prices are just ridiculous. A SC there is $18 compared to $12 at the Corp B&M. So I usually end up ordering my MF singles online and everything else at the corporate B&M.
I've been making an effort to diversify my humidor. My humidor used to be Fuente with a few randoms. Now it's about 20% Fuente, 30% Pepin Garcia blends, and the rest is singles & samplers. Avg stick cost has gone up as well. 30 year old me would kick 50 year old me's arse for spending $30+ on a single.
ETA: The bargain cigars have gotten so much better than they were in the late '00s. I have a few Toranos in my humidor from back then. I tried to smoke one recently and moved on after the first ash. I've had Factory Smokes and seconds that were much better. (I've heard the Rocky Patel Mulligans are good.)

Factory smokes are criminally underrated.

CAO Black is underrated as well…

You guys that live in Louisiana are fortunate. One of the places I use to purchase boutique cigars in LA Cigar Collective located at 3807 Airline Dr, Metairie, LA 70001.
If you have not tried Alex Glez (AG), Apostate, Definition, Ohana Nui, etc., it's a good place that you can try singles.
They carry some stuff that is outstanding, and while not impossible to find, very difficult to find.

The crooks err... politicians here are talking about raising premium cigar taxes and expanding them to anyone who seems then into the state. Thankfully I'll be in Florida this fall and I'm sure they'll be happy to take the SALES tax money when I stock up.
After a few months of aging I pulled an Oliva G out of my humidor today. Very average cigar.

Very tight dry draw which continued until the 2nd half. The final inch brought a much more smooth draw with pleasant notes on my palate. I'm beginning to wonder if I've been spoiled on the MF and $20+ sticks lately!
