I once watched a "How it's made" episode where they showed Kingsford charcoal briquets being being made. When they came to part where actual coal was mixed in, I stopped watching. I just buy lump now and sometimes make my own from sassafras, oak or hickory depending on what's fallen down in the most recent storm.

Second smoke with Kingsford Pro and I’m a fan. Clean and lasts twice as long.

For day to day it’s royal oak lump. Very consistent.
It doesn’t pop and no evidence of building materials.

Every now and then I get a bag of lump on amazon but forgot the name. The chunks are huge. It pops a lot though.

Gave up briquettes years ago. Lots of clay.

IMO, best charcoal around is Kamado Joe big block xl. The cleanest burning coals, and very large chunks. Perfect for smoking or hot grilling.

I have a kamado grill so I only use lump. B&B is average, cowboy brand and Cajun brand is complete garbage.

I much prefer briquettes for my Weber. Unless I’m smoking then I’ll just use Kingsford original.

Anybody ever use this Thaan Charcoal? I was thinking about grilling some kabobs indoors on my baby Weber (with a sheetpan underneath) but wasnt sure if it would create too much smoke. Also didnt know if i could relight it to get multiple uses out of it. TIA

Kamado Joe XL Lump is my go to. Stores have been wiped out and I've had to use the Cajun brand lump charcoal. Smaller pieces and I feel it doesn't burn as clean.
