I have the lemons in the pot before I drop the basket full of crawfish into the pot...

how do you put the in the pot but not in the basket?
so I don't have a bunch of lemony corn, potatoes or crawfish...

when I do use them, I don't find that they change the taste at all, so I recently stopped using them...saving them for making the hands after we are done eating.

I don't think I have ever seen a boil without lemons. Sometimes they put oranges in too.

My grandparents lived in cajun country next to a crawfish market and we heard it all from those people. So I have seen the lemon thing all across the state and even down in N.O.

Always use lemons in the boil, but I sure as hell wouldn't squeeze the lemons over the boiled crawfish, after they are taken out of the pot.

I don't need the to clean my hands. I wear disposable surgical gloves to eat them and just peel those off and I'm all clean. They're great. I don't get pepper on my contacts that way. I use them to handle meats like making burgers or trimming meats. They're great and a big box is cheap at Sam's. I put them out at our boils for other folks. It's caught on. Good for kids, too, who always stick their fingers in their eyes after they eat crawfish. Women like them because they save the manicures.

Men get manicures as well.

I always end up tossing that pair of contacts. I'm thinking about going to daily disposables.

Some do. They usually also pour crawfish boil on the outside of the crawfish after they've been boiled and shake it up in an ice chest.

That's true, but not usually in colors.

I don't like that crawfish stuff under my nails any more than I like hamburger meat trapped there. The gloves are terrific.

My contacts are monthly disposables and they don't come in dailies, but you still have to stick that peppery finger around your eye to take the things out. No burn is my motto.

Using rubber gloves to eat crawfish is much worse than throwing a few lemons in the pot. Rubber gloves are for prostate exams, not eating.

Who doesnt like the nice taste of rubber with crawfish.

And hell, lemon adds a nice dimension to the boil, just like with most if not all other seafood dishes. I dont understand why folks think it is such a reach.

If you dont like it, fine. Dont use it, but dont act like it is all of a sudden a dumb idea to put lemons in a crawfish boil. I boil crawfish more then the average joe and I would not consider leaving lemons out. Just because you cant taste a lemon flavor unless it is overwhelming does not mean most others can appreciate that flavor. Of course too much lemon can be bad as is with any other ingredient. Seems like you had a crappy experience with too much. It is not just a coincidence that most shellfish, hell most seafood is usually paired with lemons or some kind of citrus.
