NOLA restauranteur Mr. John Santopadre (of Cafe Giovanni's, Mr. John's Steakhouse, Smilie's, etc) owned the Le Foret building previously. He was considering renovating into another restaurant, but his untimely passing did not allow that. It was willed to his grandchildren (LE
) who then sold to Le Foret.
This building got a MAJOR facelift. It was barely standing.

Take Glass with you. You can share grandmother stories.
We'll see if he's brave enough to go through with it.

Wasn't it also a library at some point?
not really sure.
The only history lesson I got was that it was an cigar shop owned by some columbians that dated back to the 1800s.
and yes as stated above we were renovating the building pre katrina to be another restaurant. Katrina and untimely death ruined it all.
the last time i had seen it was sept 2005 when i was patching the holes in the roof. just recently took a tour, and it is amazing what they did

Nah, I'll just call your horse and buggy servants and they'll take care of the rest.

Now, now - leave Glass alone. He is the only other poster that hails from my generation.

Not so fast. Although I'm not quite there yet, I plan on depleting Social Security before any of you get any.

I have a feeling he and Gris Gris are close in age. Just a hunch, but...

Ok - who's past the half century mark?
I sheepishly raise my hand.

I love it. No posts in response.
I'm there.
ETA: I can be immature . . . in a good way.

That's pretty cool!
Sorry about your loss.
The building really is beautiful. Well, from the first floor that I saw.
