I’ll be in Lake Charles for a few days and just checking to see if there is any can’t miss type of places that I should go eat at. I’ll be going through Scott so I’ll hit the boudin trail going and coming but other than that I don’t have any ideas. What do you guys have?

Go have a Darrell's special and then come back here and tell us it was either:

Your favorite sandwich in the history of sandwiches.

Or

Way overrated and you don't see what all the fuss is about.

I don't think there ever been any opinion other than those two.

I may have to try that but I eat Bear’s in Covington about once a week so my poboy standards are pretty high.

Also, an underrated lunch plate place is Hacketts on highway 14.

Bumping bc I had an excellent meal at Calla last night. Wild boar chops were one of the best things I've eaten in a while. Only complaint is portion size vs price, for $32 you only get two chops...still delicious though.

Calla
1910
Cousin's
Ball's fried chicken
Sloppy's downtown
121 is pretty good
La truffe sauvage if you like french food
Chart House
Vic & Anthony's
Victoria's for breakfast or lunch
El Tapatio
Hackett's for a plate lunch
The Villa

Do not go to Darrell's. It's an OK sandwich. It's gone downhill. You have much better poboys locally.

Oh forgot about The Villa...wife and I went a month or two ago and really liked it. They did a great job with the building too.

I’m stuck in the Golden Nugget. I got Best Stop and Don’s for lunch yesterday(Best Stop was better) Some cheap arse grille today. Last full day tomorrow so i’m thinking Lillie’s for dinner. Wednesday is open for lunch/early supper. What’s everyone think?

Didn't see it mentioned but if you can get to Seafood Palace over on Enterprise Blvd, they have good stuff.

Probably a 10 min drive from the Nugget. Get on 210 East, get off at the Enterprise Blvd exit and go north. It'll be on the left just before you get to the railroad tracks.

Great fried catfish, gumbo, chicken fried steak, etc. Sort of a little hole in the wall but it's very good.

If you're stuck at the Nugget and can't leave, then either Lillie's, Vic and Anthony's, or The Chart House.

I've done Vic and Anthony's and wasn't blown away for the price, I hear good things about The Chart House, Lillie's has good sushi and some interesting non-sushi entrees - can't go wrong there.

ETA: for a lunch/early supper, check out Prime. It's not far from the Nugget. You can take some boudin home from there too.

I swear the steakhouse Ember at L'Auberge is one of the best I have ever been to in my life. Also, The Harlequin off 210 is wonderful. Pujo St Cafe is great.....I agree with most of the other suggestions. Golden Nugget is da bomb....love staying there when I am over there for work.
